2021 Ram PROMASTER problems and owner complaints

On August 5, I descended on California Highway 88 East from the Carson Pass; less than 1 mile down a warning appeared to “Service Brake System”. The warning disappeared but the “brake” light on the instrument cluster remained on. I took the vehicle to Carson Dodge on August 6. The dealer performed diagnostics and made two repairs based on generated codes (C1223-68 & P0556). I picked it up on August 13 and drove about 200 miles; the warning re-appeared each time I drove it. Most times when going down long grade over 6 + percent a dash warning comes on about service brake system. Once we get to flat area and turn ignition off the message goes away. We haven't had an issue braking. We are on Facebook group with other promaster 3500 and over 80 other similar vehicle owners stated this happens to them. Everyone says it's a "known problem" and not an issue and just ignore. We are worried what happens if it really is a problem. It happens every time we do mountain driving. I'd say over 10 times this year.

The Transmission in these vehicles have been known to fail. This is just one of 38 in our fleet. Currently there are 8 of these vehicles at dealerships with transmission problem. We also have 4 more now that have to wait for dealerships to have room for them. Between the 2 dealerships within 6 miles of our business headquarters, they currently have almost 70 ProMasters with transmission problems and can only fix one at a time due to lack of parts. The contact owns a 2021 Jayco Swift RV built on a 2021 Ram Promaster 3500 Chassis. The contact stated that while driving downhill at an undisclosed speed, the transmission failed to shift out of low gear, and the RPMS were significantly high. The vehicle that I have is the very short wheelbase of the Ram Promaster, the 118” one which is shorter than anything that Ford Transit of Sprinter has. The issue is that the steering is horribly sensitive, meaning that if you move the steering wheel even a tiny bit the vehicle moves a lot. It is similar to the old days of those short wheelbase Jeeps and you hear of people complaining in about steering themselves off the road. The component that failed/malfunctioned is the CV axle, the part is no longer available for inspection. The safety risk posed is loss of control of the vehicle, subsequent damage to other vital steering and stability parts such as the wheel bearings, axles, alignment, and lower ball joint. The problem has been confirmed by a RAM dealership, and corrected under an extended warranty. RV build from Forest River/Coachmen. Nova model. Inverter settings were incorrect from the factory. This in turn caused too much voltage to go to house battery. House battery was then out gassing hydrogen into the coach. This hydrogen collected inside and was setting off the CO detector.

Vehicle bottomed out and lodged on concrete entering driveway. Thor Scope Ram Promaster 1500 Chassis sits low and Thor installed Cummins Onan generator and 2 Trojan batteries under the chassis, that sit 2 or more inches below the rear axle against the Cummins install guidelines. The generator needs 6 to 8 inches for ventilation according to manual and RV mechanics. I had NHTSA recall for this generator done (23E-030) which was to solve the same problem I just had. Apparently, they just moved to a smaller diameter fuel line to fit the fuel pump better. However, this hose also came off my Cummins generator fuel pump and was spewing gas all over the generator and the ground when we ran it. This is a very unsafe condition and I'm surprised, after the recall was performed by a certified Cummins dealer (verified by Cummins) that this "new" fuel line has also come off the fuel pump.
