FORD, 1967 MUSTANG, SIX CYL AUTO TRANS. WHILE I WAS STOPPED FOR A LIGHT, THE CARBURETOR RETURN SPRING LET GO. LUCKY FOR ME, I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND OFF THE GAS PEDAL AS I WAS STILL IN DRIVE. I HEARD THE SPRING BOUNCE OFF THE FAN AND THE ENGINE SPEED UP. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, TOOK THE SHIFT OUT OF DRIVE AND COASTED TO THE CURB.. I COULD NOT FIND ANY PART OF THE SPRING OR ANCHOR POINT. I TOOK A SPRING OUT FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND USED THAT ARRANGEMENT FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. I STILL HAVE THE CAR IN THE GARAGE BUT HAVE NO…

WHEN THIS CAR STALLS IT WILL FIRST NOT HOLD A STEADY IDLE. THERE ARE OTHER TIMES WHEN THIS CAR WILL BE WATING ATA A LIGHT AND THE IDLE WILLL KICK UP TO OVER 2000 RPM. WHEN THIS HAPPEND THE ENGINE WILL TRY TO ENGAGE AND THE CARE WILL LURCH FORWARD. THE STALLING PROBELM HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. FUEL PUMP INTERMITTENTLY WORKS. SOMETIMES I HEAR IT KICK IN AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T, LIKE TODAY AFTER WORK. I REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP IN 2004 AND THE FUEL FILTER TO THE TUNE OF $550.00. I WAS NOT GIVEN THE OLD PARTS. I AM WORRIED I MAY HAVE TO GET IT DONE AGAIN TOMORROW. I THINK THE FIRST REPAIR SHOP ROBBED ME. THEY CHARGED ME 189.59 FOR THE PUMP AND 16.48 FOR THE FILTER. THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE FAILURE IS CAB FARES, BUMMING RIDES AND THE MENTAL ANGUISH OF WHETHER OR NOT IT WILL START. I AM FEMALE AND WORRIED ABOUT IT. *TR
