(1) DRIVING IN TOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. VEHICLE APPEARED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY. (2) COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING. ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE BEFORE A COLLISION OCCURRED. THE STEERING CENTER LINK DISCONNECTED FROM THE PITMAN ARM. IT HAD PULLED OUT OF THE JOINT. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF CORROSION OR DAMAGE. THE SOCKET WAS WELL LUBRICATED. THE BALL AND SOCKET ARE A SEALED UNIT. (3) THE CENTER LINK WAS REPLACED WITH NEW PARTS. THE OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE.*AK

WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SHE SLOWED DOWN AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. The contact stated that he had taken the vehicle to get the shocks replaced and the technician working on the vehicle refused to continue working on the vehicle due to extreme corrosion on the rear passenger’s side of the frame near the fuel tank.
