2023 Micro Bird G5 SCHOOL BUS: complaints, problems and recalls

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro) is recalling certain 2012-2023 G5, 2012-2023 MBII and 2015-2022 T-Series school buses. The power cable that provides electricity to the air conditioning control board may have a loose connection to the power stud on the board.

Consequence: A loose power cable connection may cause the control board to overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will redirect the power cable and secure the power cable connect as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 2, 2023. Owners may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012. Micro Bird's number for this recall is 22-096-VUS.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2021-2023 G5, 2022-2023 MBII, and 2022 T-Series school buses. The seat-level rub rails may be incorrectly attached to the side of the bus.

Consequence: Incorrectly attached rub rails may not offer adequate protection against an impact, increasing the risk of injury.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2019 G5 school buses. A LIN gateway module may fail causing the defrosting system to be inoperative. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 103, "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging Systems."

Consequence: An inoperative windshield defrosting system may decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2011-2025 Micro Bird G5 school buses, equipped with certain tracked 2-place seats with lap and shoulder seat belts. The seats may be improperly attached. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Consequence: An improperly attached seat can detach in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2008-2025 G5, 2008-2024 MBII, and 2015-2024 T-Series school buses. The rear emergency door exterior handle may unexpectedly break under applied force.

Consequence: In the event of an emergency, a broken door handle can prevent or delay emergency responders from entering the bus, increasing the risk of injury.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2023-2024 G5 school buses. The engine drive belt tensioner may fail, resulting in a loose drive belt.

Consequence: A loose drive belt can result in a loss of power steering, or a loss of alternator and water pump function, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the engine may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2023 G5 school buses. The u-bolts securing the suspension blades may break.

Consequence: A broken bolt may allow the suspension to shift or detach, increasing the risk of a crash.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2023-2025 T- Series, G5, and 2024-2025 MBII school buses equipped with a power-assisted service door. The rod-eye rings attaching the front and rear door panels to the opening gear may delaminate, preventing the door from being controlled by the driver.

Consequence: The door panel may remain in the open position or open unexpectedly, increasing the risk of passenger being injured falling out of the bus.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the service door mechanism for signs of rod-eye ring delamination and repair the mechanism as necessary, free of charge. Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2023-2026 G5 and 2025 T-Series school buses equipped with certain QRT-Deluxe and QRT-Max wheelchair restraints. The retractors may not lock, preventing the wheelchair from being properly secured.

Consequence: An unlocked wheelchair can move during transit or during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2003-2026 MB II, 2006-2026 G5, and 2015-2026 T-Series school buses. An installation error may prevent the wheelchair tie-downs from locking, leaving the wheelchair improperly secured.

Consequence: An unsecured wheelchair can move during transit or a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2023-2026 G5 and 2024 MB II school buses built on a GM chassis and equipped with a second air conditioning compressor kit. The drive belt pulley may contact and damage the the oil lines.

Consequence: A damaged oil like may leak, increasing the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source.
