HAVE HAD REPEATED FRONT BRAKE WEAR OUT AND NOISE (SQUAEK/GROAN) ON MY 2000 MERCURY VILLAGER SINCE NEW. HAVE HAD 4 SETS OF FRONT BRAKE PADS AND A SET OF ROTORS REPLACED IN ONLY 28,000 MILES. DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THE OTHER TWO MERCURY VILLAGERS THAT I'VE OWNED (1996 AND 1998 MODELS) DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.*AK

I PURCHASED A 2000 MERCURY VILLAGER BRAN NEW. AT AROUND 8,000 MILES I WOULD GET A SICKLY SWEET SMELL WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON. I COMPLAINED BUT NEITHER FORD NOR THE DEALER COULD TELL ME ANYTHING OR FIND ANYTHING. LATER IT GOR SO BAD THE SMELL WAS ON MY BREATH AND IT TRIGGERED A BRONCHIAL INFECTION THAT LASTED FOR THREE MONTHS. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND THAT THE DEALER KNEW IT WAS A MOLD BUILD UP IN THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HE HAS BEEN SPRAYING WITH ANANTI FUNGAL TREATMENT. THIS CLEARS IT FOR A WHILE, BUT NOT PERMANENTLY. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES, LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS, SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, AND MINI VANS EQUIPPED WITH TRW SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES. THE BUCKLE BASE OF THESE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES WERE NOT PROPERLY HEAT TREATED AND THEREFORE DO NOT PASS THE LOAD BEARING REQUIREMENT OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 209, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES."
Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE DATE CODE ON CERTAIN SEAT BELT BUCKLES OF YOUR VEHICLE AND REPLACE ALL SEAT BELT BUCKLES THAT FALL WITHIN THE SUSPECT DATE CODE RANGE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 26, 2000. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS. ONE OR MORE OF THE FIVE BOLTS THAT MOUNT THE RACK AND PINION STEERING GEAR TO THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY TIGHTENED.
Consequence: THERE COULD BE A LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING, WHICH MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY NOISE OR VIBRATION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLES AND, IF THE BOLTS ARE MISSING, WILL REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR MOUNTING BOLTS. ALL BOLTS WILL BE TIGHTENED TO THE SPECIFIED TORQUE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN NOVEMBER 28, 2000. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.
