AFTER CLOSING THE REAR DOOR, THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED WITH EXTREME FORCE, SENDING GLASS FRAGMENTS TO THE FAR EDGES OF THE GARAGE. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE CAR TO HIT THE WINDOW AND THE GARAGE DOOR WAS CLOSED. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT STANDING BEHIND THE CAR OR I MAY HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I FIND MANY OCCURRENCES OF THIS FOR THE FORD ESCAPE WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS THE SISTER CAR TO THE MARINER. EVEN THOUGH MERCURY WILL NO LONGER BE MADE, THE ESCAPE WILL CONTINUE TO BE MADE. I BELIEVE THE WINDOW DESIGN TO BE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE INVEST…

IF THIS IS THE WRONG FORUM FOR THIS ISSUE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. WE PURCHASED A 2008 MERCURY MARINER NEW, SO THE CAR IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD AND WHILE GARAGE KEPT THE VEHICLE MILEAGE EXCEEDS THE NEW CAR WARRANTY. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WERE CHANGED $118.00 TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM WITH THE BACKUP SYSTEM/SENSORS AND WERE INFORMED THAT THE SENSORS WERE FINE BUT THE ELECTRONIC DEVICE WHICH CALCULATES DISTANCE WAS BAD, TO REPLACE AN ADDITIONAL $500.00. WHY HAVE BACKUP SYSTEM/SENSORS ON A VEHICLE IF THE LIFE OF THE ELECTRONICS …

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 65MPH. VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO THE GAS PEDAL INPUT. CHECK ENGINE (YELLOW WRENCH) LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO CROSS OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHILE COASTING WITH THE ENGINE AT IDLE. CAME TO A STOP AND THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS AT IDLE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND IT RESTARTED AFTER A LONGER THAN NORMAL AMOUNT OF CRANKING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OUT. CAR DROVE NORMALLY TO MY DESTINATION. TOOK CAR TO ALAN VIGIL FORD. CAR SEEMS TO STALL ALL POWER STAYS ON BUT THE CAR SHAKES AND THEN STALLS AND THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON WHICH IS A POWERTRAIN LIGHT. TOOK CAR TO DEALER THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. FRIDAY 24TH, THE WRENCH SIGN CAME ON, THE CAR SHUT DOWN IN TRAFFIC. CALLED THE DEALER, TOLD ME TO PULL THE KEY OUT AND THEN RESTART AFTER 5 MINUTES. IT STARTED AND HE OKAYED ME TO DRIVE IT. HE SAID IT WAS A 1TIME GLITCH. LATER IN THE DAY, PULLING OUT OF A RESTAURANT, IT DID THE SAME THING. SO I REPEATED WHAT THE FORD SERVICE TECH TOLD ME. THE NEXT MORNING I BROUGHT IT DIRECTLY TO THE FORD SERVICE CENTER WHERE THE TECH TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE LIGHT INDICATOR DIDN'T REMAIN ON, THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL WHAT THE CAUSE WAS. Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

14V284000 · Steering:Electric Power Assist System

Reported: 2014-05-29 (May 29, 2014)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist.

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (PSCM) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the PSCM when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on July 18, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S05.

16V777000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Fuel Pump

Reported: 2016-10-26 (October 26, 2016)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured February 26, 2009, to April 29, 2012, and 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured February 25, 2009, to December 12, 2010. On vehicles with a 3.0L engine, the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) may crack, causing a fuel leak.

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the FDM flange with one that has a redesigned fuel supply port, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners on December 13, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S41.
