2019 Jayco PRECEPT: complaints, problems and recalls

THE FIRST TIME THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED WAS IN OCT 2018. I WAS RETURNING FROM A TRIP AND WAS IN COLORADO WHEN IT STARTED RAINING AND LIGHT SNOW. I NOTICED WAS THE DRIVERS SIDE WIPER BLADE WAS COMING AWAY FROM THE WIPER ARM. I PULLED OVER 3 TIMES IN THE RAIN ON INTERSTATE 70 TO TRY TO ATTACH IT. AS I WAS CONTINUING ON MY TRIP IN HAD JUST GOTTEN ON THE SOUTH BOUND INTERSTATE 15 IN UTAH WHEN THE ENTIRE WIPER ASSEMBLY SUDDENLY FLOPPED TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE MOTORHOME. IT WAS NO LONGER WORKING. SEPTEMBER 15 2018 WHILE EXITING THE PARKING LOT OF A WALMART IN STERLING COLORADO, I AND MY PASSENGER HEARD A LOUD CLUNK AND FELT A SUDDEN VIBRATION. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED BACK IT TO THE PARKING LOT. I EXITED THE MOTORHOME AND TOOK A LOOK AROUND. I LOOK UNDER THE COACH TO FIND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS LAYING PART ON THE GROUND AND PART WAS WRAPPED AROUND THE DRIVELINE OF THE COACH. ON 5/26/2020 MY HUSBAND & I WERE DRIVING HOME FROM GILROY, CA WITH OUR NEW 2019 JAYCO PRECEPT PRESTIGE MOTORHOME. WE WERE HEADING NB ON I-55 (50-55MPH) CROSSING FROM MISSOURI INTO ILLINOIS (COLLINSVILLE AREA) & A HEAVY HAULER CARRYING CONCRETE, WAS SPEEDING SB ON I-55 (65 MPH AT LEAST) IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, JACKED KNIFED HIS VEHICLE TO AVOID SLAMMING INTO STOP/SLOWED TRAFFIC. Windshield wiper system worked intermittently for the last couple of years. Now it the windshield wiper system doesn’t work at all.

Reported: 2018-05-04 (May 4, 2018)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2018 Jayco Alante and 2018-2019 Jayco Precept vehicles. The windshield wiper system motor on these vehicles may fail when being operated in heavy snow or ice situations, thereby reducing driver visibility. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."

Consequence: Failure of the windshield wiper system can decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper module with a new relay pack, free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903378.

Reported: 2018-07-05 (July 5, 2018)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2019 Jayco Alante and Precept motorhomes. When traveling at highway speeds, the windshield wiper arms may lift away from the windshield when the wiper speed setting is on high, decreasing the wiper's ability to clear the windshield. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."

Consequence: The driver's reduced visibility can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jayco has notified owners, and dealers will replace the wiper system, free of charge. The recall began on July 30, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903403.

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jayco Alante, Precept, Seneca, Redhawk, and Melbourne motorhomes. The Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) label incorrectly overstates the cargo capacity, potentially causing the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, "Wheels and Rims - Other than Passenger Cars."

Consequence: An overloaded vehicle has an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and will provided a corrected CCC label, free of charge. The recall began on August 22, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903405.

Reported: 2018-10-02 (October 2, 2018)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2019 Jayco Precept and Precept Prestige motorhomes built on a Ford chassis and equipped with 22.5 inch front wheels. The front wheel hub assembly may have wheel studs that were not properly heat treated.

Consequence: If a sufficient quantity of wheel studs break on one hub, vehicle handling could be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and Ford dealers will inspect the front wheel hub assemblies and studs, and replace the studs as necessary, free of charge. The recall began September 28, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customers service at 1-866-436-7332 or Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137.

Reported: 2019-04-02 (April 2, 2019)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Precept, 2016-2019 Alante and 2019 Precept Prestige motorhomes built on a Ford F53 chassis. The blower motor electrical circuit may be missing the 25amp fuse, possibly resulting in overheating of the wiring.

Consequence: If the wiring in the circuit overheats, it can increase the risk of fire.

Remedy: Jayco has notified owners, and dealers will install a 25amp fuse, free of charge. The recall began April 16, 2019. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903432.

Reported: 2021-03-24 (March 24, 2021)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Jayco Alante, Precept, Greyhawk, Redhawk, Entegra Esteem, and Odyssey motorhomes equipped with Dometic 3 burner cooking stoves. The saddle valve securing bolt may be overtightened, possibly damaging the o-ring seal and causing a continuous gas leak.

Consequence: A gas leak can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and Dometic service centers will install a remedy kit of gaskets, washers, thread locker bolts, and two round orange labels, free of charge.
