2013 Jaguar XJ: complaints, problems and recalls

WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE CAR STARTED ROLLING FORWARD. I HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO STOP IT. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 3 MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT 2 MONTHS. ONE TIME THE ENGINE RACED VERY HIGH AND I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO AVOID CRASHING. AT 5000 MILES I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THEY COULD FIND NO DIAGNOSES FROM THE AUTO COMPUTER AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED A 2013 JAGUAR XJ NEW ON OCTOBER 22, 2013 THAT WAS EQUIPPED WITH 4 PIRELLI PZERO NERO TIRES. ON FEBRUARY 22, 2016 I HAD TO REPLACE THE TWO FRONT TIRES 245/45R/19 DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR. THE REAR TIRES WERE DEEMED IN GOOD CONDITION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 JAGUAR XJ. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM MODULE FAILED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR OTHER TIMES. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE STOP/START FEATURE FAILS AND THE CAR STALLS WHILE IN GEAR. THE DRIVE POSITION INDICATOR FLASHES AND IN ORDER TO MOVE THE CAR, IT MUST BE SHUTDOWN AND THEN RESTARTED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 JAGUAR XJ. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE LOW COOLANT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THE GAUGE APPEARED NORMAL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS IT STALLED AND SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. IN WEATHER BELOW 30 DEGREES F, PARKED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME ON THE STREET, AND USUALLY IN FROST CONDITIONS, DOORS WILL NOT OPEN ON CAR. ONCE YOU GET DOOR TO OPEN, USUALLY BY LOWERING WINDOW AND UNLOCKING FROM INSIDE, DOORS WILL NOT LATCH CLOSED. ONCE CAR WARMS UP, DOORS LATCH CLOSED. DOORS NEED TO BE HELD BY HAND OR BY BUNGEE CORD TO KEEP CLOSED UNTIL CAR WARMS UP AND DOOR LATCHES CLOSED. The headlights turn themselves off while I’m driving at night. It’s very scary for a minute or two but I manage to get them back on by manipulating the switch. I mentioned this to the service rep at the Jaguar dealership and his response was “ that’s typical of that car”. It’s been doing this since a purchased the car but is getting worse and dangerous.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2013 XF and XJ vehicles manufactured March 26, 2013, through April 10, 2013. In these vehicles, the certification label that is intended to specify the required Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) front, Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) rear, the manufacture date and country of manufacture is absent. Thus, the vehicles do not conform to Part 567, "Certification."

Consequence: If the certification label does not specify all the necessary information or the vehicle weight range could result in the vehicle being overloaded and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners and dealers will re-acquire and will provide a replacement vehicle or a full refund of the purchase, free of charge. Owners may contact Jaguar at 1-855-524-8278. Jaguar's number associated with this recall is J039.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 XJ, XF and XK vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the toe links, components used to control the alignment of the rear wheels, can separate from the rear sub-frame.

Consequence: If a toe link separates from the rear sub-frame, a loss of vehicle stability and directional control may result, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jaguar notified owners on May 8, 2014, and dealers will replace the nut and washer assembly on the rear toe links, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin around May 27, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar at 1-855-524-8278. Jaguar's number for this recall is J037.

Reported: 2014-06-02 (June 2, 2014)

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2013 Jaguar XJ vehicles manufactured May 21, 2012, through July 10, 2012. The generic software calibration installed on the vehicles' Restraints Control Module (RCM) may not meet the specification for proper operation of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence: Vehicles that have the generic software may put the occupants at an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will upload new software for the Restraints Control Module, free of charge. The recall began on July 8, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-855-524-8278. Jaguar's number for this recall is J040.
