2022 Grand Design REFLECTION: complaints, problems and recalls

The bunk beds in the rear room of this 5th wheel camper are approximately 5' off the ground and are not equipped with safety like a standard bed of this height would require from other regulations. This is a MAJOR safety issue that resulted in facial and upper body injuries to my 12 year old daughter when she fell out of the bunk while sleeping. From the uploaded documents - Job#s 5,6,7 are the most serious, with #6 being the most likely to cause injury to the occupants of the tow vehicle and the motoring public. The dates are when we had to take it in to the dealer. Purchased the RV [XXX] and took it to FL for full time residency. The large slide that has the fridge and dinette has a inadequate schwintek slide mechanism that fails and leaves the buyer to fix out of their own pocket. About all of the floor plan 28BH has this problem. Grand Design may attempt to fix it but it's a bandaid. I have had to pay out of pocket to get the VROOM system to replace the schwintek system along with everyone else that has it. The schwintek slide system is weak and problematic as it strips gears, looses timing and burns up motors. We have only used our camper for going on three years.

NHTSA Recall No. 22V-308. Defective quick disconnect fitting on LP gas system. Pursuant to the recall notice, on [XXX], I took my 2022 Grand Design Reflection 226RK into the dealership where purchased, Lazy Days in Woodland, WA. After removing the factory installed refrigerator to install a warranty replacement unit, I discovered that the aluminum housing of the refrigerator was coming in contact with two 120v electrical outlets and the corresponding wiring. Excess movement of the refrigerator while towing caused chafing of the wiring and resulted in one of the punch down type electrical outlets breaking. -Baggage compartment doors, when latched securely and locked with key, would open during travel down the highway at random. Luckily no cargo was lost (I take turns very slowly and noticed flapping baggage doors in my side view mirrors pretty quickly). -Entry door of travel trailer opens during travel even with both deadbolt & handle locks in locked positions. -This could allow items inside travel trailer to be sucked out onto roadway. That could lead to property damage, injuries, & even death to myself, my passengers, & any other vehicle on the same roadway as me. Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2022 Reflection and Transcend travel trailers, equipped with a 50-amp shore power inlet. The power inlet lug bolts may have been manufactured with excessively hard metal, preventing them from being tightened properly and resulting in a loose wiring connection.

Consequence: Loose wiring can cause an electrical arc or short, increasing the risk of fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the power inlet, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 25, 2022. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design's number for this recall is 910028.

Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2022 Grand Design Imagine, Reflection, Momentum, Solitude and Transcend travel trailers. The quick disconnect fittings in the LP gas system may be cracked, causing a gas leak.

Consequence: A gas leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the quick disconnect fittings, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 30, 2022. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design's number for this recall is 910029.

Reported: 2022-08-09 (August 9, 2022)

Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Momentum, Solitude, Imagine, Reflection, and Transcend travel trailers. The electric retractable awning has a welded seam on the fabric that may separate, potentially allowing the awning to drop beyond normal operation.

Consequence: An awning that drops or extends beyond normal operation can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and repair, or replace the awning, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed by August 22, 2022. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design's number for this recall is 910031.
