WE ARE BUYING A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WE HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED ONCE, AND IT IS HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN! WE'VE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALER, WHO SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY ALSO SAID THIS TWICE BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT THE FIRST TIME. NOW IT'S ACTING UP AGAIN, AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I'M SURE IT WILL GO OUT AGAIN, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME. WHEN THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE DRIVER HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. MY SON REAR ENDED A SEMI-TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK IN A SNOW STORM LAST WEEK. HE WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. AIR TEMPS PREVIOUS WEEK WERE IN THE -20 TO -40 RANGE. TEMPERATURE AT TIME OF ACCIDENT WAS -15. I RAISE THIS AS INDICATED BELOW. *AK MY CONCERNS ARE: 1. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH VACUUM POWER, 4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 105, "HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEMS." THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH A KINKED BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM SUPPLY HOSE.
Consequence: THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 105.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL RE-ROUTE THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM SUPPLY HOSE.
