Owner report 720985 · 2000-04-04 (April 4, 2000)

PULLED INTO GARAGE AND THERE WAS A A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. DISCOVERED A GASOLINE PUDDLE WHERE THE FUEL LINES GO INTO THE THROTTLE BODY. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICING DEALER, THIS LEAK, WH EN BAD ENOUGH FORCES GASOLINE INTO THE MAIN WIRE HARNESS . THIS LEAK , AS I UNDERSTAND IT, RESULTED FROM THE FAILURE OF "O" RINGS WHERE THE FUEL LINE GOES INTO THE THROTTLE BODY. I THINK THE "O" RING FAILURE MIGHT RESULT FROM DEFECTIVE "O" RINGS. I DON"T KNOW THAT FOR POSITIVE. I CAN NOPT HELP BUT THINK THIS FAILURE IS A SIGNIGICANT SAFETY HAZARD. I AM A…

TRUCK OVER-STEERS TO THE LEFT, ESPECIALLY ON A LEFT HAND CURVE. THE STEERING WHEEL WILL MOMENTARLY PULL HARD TO THE LEFT - THEN RETURN TO CENTER. DURING THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WILL UNEXPECTEDLY VEER LEFT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FIRM GRIP ON THE WHEEL AND COUNTER ACT THE HARD PULL. A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER INDICTAED THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURANCE ON THESE VEHICLES AND THAT REPLACING A SENSOR IN THE POWER STEERING UNIT WOULD FIX IT. HOWEVER, THIS REPAIR IS NOT COVERED, SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND CHEVROLET HAS NOT ISSUED A RECAL…

Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

97V037000 · Seats

Reported: 1997-03-07 (March 7, 1997)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: EXTENDED CAB AND 2-DOOR UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH RECLINING SEATS AND THE EASY-ENTRY FEATURE. THESE VEHICLES EXHIBIT A CONDITION IN WHICH A PINCH POINT EXISTS IN THE RECLINER MECHANISM THAT CAN TRAP AND PINCH A PERSON'S HAND OR FINGER(S) WHEN THE EASY-ENTRY FEATURE IS ACTIVATED.

Consequence: THIS PINCHING CAN CUT THE HAND OR POSSIBLY SEVER THE FINGER(S) WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A PROTECTOR COVER OVER THE RECLINER MECHANISM.

97V176000 · Seats

Reported: 1997-10-07 (October 7, 1997)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS. ONE OR TWO OF THE FRONT SEAT MOUNTING BOLTS WERE NOT INSTALLED. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 207, "SEATING SYSTEMS."

Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, A SEAT WITH THIS CONDITION WILL NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANT AS REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL CHECK ALL SEAT MOUNTING BOLTS AND INSTALL ANY MISSING BOLTS.

98V187000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly

Reported: 1998-08-10 (August 10, 1998)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CREW CAB PICKUP TRUCKS. THE FRONT, INNER CORNER OF THE FUEL TANK CAN CONTACT THE BODY SILL EITHER INTERMITTENTLY OR CONSTANTLY. THIS MOVEMENT CAN CAUSE A DISCERNIBLE NOISE AND, OVER TIME, CAN WEAR A HOLE IN OR CRACK THE FUEL TANK AT POINT OF CONTACT.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN RESULT IN FUEL LEAKAGE AND A DISTINCT FUEL ODOR IF THE TANK WERE FILLED ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE HOLE OR CRACK. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A FIRE COULD RESULT.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK FOR WEAR AND, EITHER INSTALL A SPACER BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER, OR IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE FUEL TANK.
