Owner report 11499456 · 2022-12-29 (December 29, 2022)
Yesterday I drove an hour in the rain for the first time in my brand new 2023 rav4. I pulled into a parking lot, put it in park and all of the sudden my car starting stuttering/jerking/jolting the whole car, the rpm's were fluttering up and down between 2-3, the car engine turned on and off and car felt very weird. Check engine light and yellow explanation symbol came on with message " Engine stopped steering power low" and turned car off. Then I turned it back on and it was doing the same thing jolting me forward with the same message and als…

Owner report 11569688 · 2024-02-03 (February 3, 2024)
Vehicle will shut off while in “drive” gear after a complete stop and will report on the dash screen “ Engine stopped. Steering power low.” All other alert lights will be on and unable to change the gear into neutral to move the vehicle into a safe location. This vehicle has already done this exact issue twice and it’s currently less than 10,000 miles on the vehicle. First incident was 2k mileage in a safe environment however the next incident was at 6880 miles. Vehicle shut down in the middle of a highway and I was unable to place the car into…

Owner report 11520009 · 2023-05-02 (May 2, 2023)
Panoramic sunroof. First one is fine, back one exploded. All around the edges is a very distinct crack in a connected line. There was minimal traffic, and I was the only other vehicle on the interstate with a good 4 car length between me and the next car which was 2 lanes over. I didn’t see or hear anything other than the “gunshot” sounding explosion. No wind or hail or anything, skies were clear, I was going about 60 on the interstate. It freaked me out. Luckily, I did not swerve or change my driving (slam on brakes etc), but with another pers…

Owner report 11541150 · 2023-08-28 (August 28, 2023)
As I was entering a covered parking structure, I came to a complete stop at the entrance of the gate to obtain my parking ticket. I was driving very slow less than 5 mph, and engaged the brakes as to stop to get my parking ticket before entering the parking garage. I have my foot on the brake pedal, I am at a complete stop of 0mph for several seconds now, and suddenly the engine revved and my car lunged forward a bit. I had not lifted my foot from the brake pedal, and yet the engine revved and my car lunged forwards. My passenger at the time ye…

Owner report 11582816 · 2024-04-13 (April 13, 2024)
I was sitting in line at a drive-thru with my wiper blades on the intermittent setting when suddenly the engine shut off and I got an error message that said “engine shut off steering power low”. The check engine light, battery, and steering light all came on. I turned the car off and then on again. It rumbled and then shut off again with the same message. I had to shift to neutral and push into a parking spot.

Owner report 11609576 · 2024-08-19 (August 19, 2024)
UNKNOWN. I drove my car off the dealership lot and not even 10 minutes into my ride home, as I pulled of the highway, I noticed that the RPM of the vehicle was slowing down. I pressed down harder on the gas to get it to accelerate but it just kept jerking and slowing down. Eventually I tried to get off to the side of the road and the car stopped in the middle of two lanes. The Check Engine, Battery warning and Electric Power Steering lights all came on the dashboard. There was also another error message: Engine Stopped Steering Power Low. I ca…

Owner report 11561314 · 2023-12-21 (December 21, 2023)
The vehicle several occasions been unresponsive to accelerate. This has happened on two separate occasions (days) in which the vehicle would not accelerate. The first occurrence was right after I purchased the car and drove it the first full day I owned it in September 2023. The second time was on Saturday December 16, 2023. When the vehicle is driven under 40 mph such as slowing for a turn, braking for a traffic light, picking up speed to enter onto a highway this problem occurs. It is when the gas is pressed down to accelerate, the vehicl…

Owner report 11563809 · 2024-01-05 (January 5, 2024)
I am an owner of new 2023 RAV4 and believe some of the newer 2023 & 2024 Toyota Rav4 models with ICE (non-hybrid) have a potentially dangerous defect with the transmission system, which causes these cars to jerk and stutter when the gas pedal is lightly depressed (light acceleration) when the car speed is between 15 and 40 mph and tachometer is between 1500 and 2500 RPM. The reason I believe this defect is potentially dangerous is that a few weeks ago I was going through a school zone with an active 20mph limit, and when trying to keep the spee…

Owner report 11549454 · 2023-10-11 (October 11, 2023)
I bought a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid XLE brand new. On my first refill of the gas tank, I noticed that the gas needle would only go a smidge over the 3/4 mark. The RAV4 hybrid is supposed to have 14.5 gallons and around 540 miles per tank but I estimate it to fill around 10.5 gallons and the car shows around 413 miles per tank. I've attached two images I took when I filled up the tank, the car showed around 36 miles left to empty and it only pumped 8.8 gals.

Owner report 11642739 · 2025-02-14 (February 14, 2025)
2023 Toyota Rav4 hybrid (XSE) is said to have fuel tank capacity of 14.5 Gal with range in miles (city/hwy) 594.5/551.0 mi. When I first got my car, I can fuel it up to 520 mile driving distance. After a while, I can only fuel up to 430 mile, with no other accident. The tank cannot be fully fueled. This incidence has been widely observed in owners with the same year model. The actual reason is unknown. Some went to the dealership and replaced the sensor, some just got diagnosed with no issue. None of these has actually fixed the issue. The real…
