DT: THE CONTACT STATES SHE OWNS A 2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THE BRAKES NOT WORKING. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THEY WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS PUMPING THE BRAKES TO TRY TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP, BUT IT WOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS CAUSED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WSTOPPED IN FRONT OF CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON A HIGHWAY DURING DRY ROAD CONDITIONS, THERE WAS A SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THERE WAS WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED WHO EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WAS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 99V041000, REGARDING THE POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
