STEERING COLUME TILT LOCKING MECHANISUM FAILED AND THE COLUME DROPED. HAD I NOT BEEN ALERT VEHICLE COULD HAVE SWERVED AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. DEALER SAYS STEERING COLUME HAS TO BE CHANGED BUT THEY ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. WANTS TO PUT A USED ONE IN. IT SEEM TO ME THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 GEO TRACKER. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 15 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION MOVED INTO FIRST GEAR, BUT FAILED TO GO INTO SECOND GEAR. THE VEHICLE STOPPED MOVING WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REACH SECOND GEAR. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO FAIL TO SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR. THE CONTACT MUST MANUALLY SHIFT BACK INTO FIRST GEAR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 170,000.
