Owner report 11039258 · 2017-10-24 (October 24, 2017)

IN JANUARY 2015, I BOUGHT A BMW X5 35D TWUN TURBO (N57T ENGINE) OE EQUIPPED WITH A BOSCH HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ("HPFP") PART #0445010667. TWO WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING AT 75 MPH IN THE 4TH LANE OF A 6 LANE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR JERKED AND A "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE CAME ON THE SCREEN. I WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER THINKING THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY - THE CAR IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD! I'M TOLD THAT THERE WAS A "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE" OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP THAT I DID NOT CAUSE, HAD NO WARNING OF AND COULD NOT HAVE PREVENTED…

Owner report 11166168 · 2019-01-09 (January 9, 2019)

ON 12/14/18 AT 11PM ON A DARK ROAD WITH MY YOUNG KIDS IN THE BACKSEAT AND WIFE AS PASSENGER, WE WERE IN MOTION AT 35 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE DASH INDICATED A DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THIS CAR HAS A TRANSMISSION LOCK TO PREVENT TWO-WHEEL TOWING THAT MAKES IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. WE ARE LEFT SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A DARK ROAD AROUND A BLIND CURVE AND NO WAY TO MOVE THE CAR, AND A FLAT-BED TOW TRUCK WOULD NOT ARRIVE FOR HOURS. BMW HAS DIAGNOSED A HIGH-PR…

Owner report 11444620 · 2021-12-21 (December 21, 2021)

Engine stalled at low speed. Was able to restart engine. Check engine light was on so was able to drive it to dealer. Dealer determined it was hpfp failure, with metal shards in fuel line, so entire fuel system replaced (injectors, lines, hpfp, etc). Hpfp was replaced with the same model that failed, just a new one. A while later, engine stalled again at low speed. No check engine light but was able to restart engine. Dealer notified of stall post-fix of entire fuel system. A while later engine stalled a 3rd time while driving around 40 mph.…

Owner report 11510237 · 2023-03-05 (March 5, 2023)

Rod bearing failure causing engine to be damaged. The car has 79k miles, fully maintained at a BMW dealership. My wife and toddler were driving on the highway when the car shut off with no warning. We towed the car to the same BMW dealer where we’ve had the car serviced since 34,673 miles.. The dealer documented metal flakes in the oil filter. The dealer confirmed a rod bearing spun causing a catastrophic failure to the engine requiring replacement. Initial quote exceeding price of car at $74k. BMW Corporate contacted me and offered a discount…

Owner report 10854510 · 2016-04-09 (April 9, 2016)

I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 X5 (BOUGHT IT NEW IN MARCH AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 2599 MILES RIGHT WHEN THE MALFUNCTION HAPPENED ON AUG 8TH 2015) TO A LOCAL TRADER JOE'S AFTER GETTING OFF FROM HIGHWAY 101 WHEN SUDDENLY EVERYTHING ON THE CAR FAILED. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEFT TURN AND ALMOST RAN INTO THE CAR NEXT TO ME WHICH ALSO WAS TURNING LEFT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SO STIFF THAT I CAN HARDLY TURN IT. AT THE SAME TIME, THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT IS ON AND THE SAFETY BELT RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILED. THE SAFETY BELT BECAME SO LOOSE THAT IT DIDN'T…

Owner report 10920143 · 2016-10-31 (October 31, 2016)

BMW X5M50D WHEN IT IS RAINING (HIGHWAY SPEED) AND I USE THE BRAKES THE CAR IS TURNING LEFT. HORRIBLE FEELING, I ALMOST HAD A CRASH TWICE WITH MY FAMILY BECAUSE YOU LOSE STEERING CONTROL WHEN YOU WANT TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT ...NORMAL CONDITIONS THE CAR IS BRAKING PERFECTLY...BMW DEALER ASSEMBLED SOME BRAKE DRYING SYSTEM BUT IT IS THE SAME. I AM AFRAID MORE CARS ARE AFFECTED. THE SITUATION IS MORE DANGEROUS THE STRONGEST YOU BRAKE AND ALSO DEPENDS ON THE RAIN DENSITY.

Owner report 11423712 · 2021-07-07 (July 7, 2021)

Drove car after it sat for a few days. Got about a mile from my home and thought I smelled some smoke. Rolled down windows to make sure it was not outside (was in rural area). It was not. Went another mile and pulled over. Seemed to be a small amount of smoke coming out near vent and near seatbelt uprights near door. Looked under hood and under car and saw nothing. Opened sunroof to determine if there was more smoke and to clear the air. It looked like there was a small amount of smoke coming out where the sunroof opened. NOTE: It was …

Owner report 10919875 · 2016-10-28 (October 28, 2016)

I PARKED MY 2015 BMW X5 AT WORK AT 8:30 AM. WHEN I GOT INTO THE CAR AT 5:00 PM ALL THE LIGHTS WERE RED AND YELLOW ON THE DASHBOARD. I TRIED TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN AND I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT JEOPARDIZING MY LIFE. LUCKILY, NOBODY ELSE WAS DRIVING IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE SAME TIME AS I DID NOT HAVE POWER IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. NEXT DAY, MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE RODENT ISSUES AND THE RODENTS CHEWED THE WIRING INSIDE THE HARNESS. I CALLED…

Owner report 11191544 · 2019-03-26 (March 26, 2019)

WHILE DRIVING ON THE I-15 SOUTH NEAR CAMINO DEL NORTE, MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE CAME FROM THE INSIDE, BACK, DRIVERS SIDE FROM THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS! AS I ENTERED THE 15 A FEW MILES BEFORE, I NOTICED ALL OF THE PRESET STATIONS WEREN'T WORKING AND THEN THE CAR GAVE AN AIR BAG WARNING. AFTER THE AIRBAG WARNING, THERE WAS A PARKING BRAKE WARNING. THAT IS WHEN I PULLED OVER, GRABBED MY PURSE, AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED 9-1-1.THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT THE FIRE OUT.
