2021 Winnebago VIEW: complaints, problems and recalls

The contact owns a 2021 Winnebago View built on a 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The contact stated that while the RV was parked in the driveway with awning retracted, the vehicle was started and the mechanical awning mechanism failed causing the awning to erroneously extend out. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local service center were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 19,000.

The awning, manufactured by Carefree of Colorado, deployed on the freeway. It came out about 1 foot on its own. The awning was damaged in the process. Fortunately, it did not impact other vehicles on the road.

As I was traveling down the road, my awning unexpectedly extended and ripped completely off the RV. The awning was too big to load into the RV so I had to leave it along side the road in the borrow ditch. The safety of the vehicles behind me was at risk as the awning could have impaled their vehicle/windshield and seriously hurt or killed someone. We had our 2021D Winnebago View recalled due to awning issues. We had the recall done on March 8, 2023. On April 3, 2023 the awning extended out as we were going down the road at 65 mph. We had not used the awning since the recall had been done. It was taken to the Winnebago Factory on May 2, 2023, testing was done and the awning was removed. There must be something else going on because we were told the recall was done correctly.

I’m reporting that my plexiglass coach door window has previously detached 2/3rds of the way up from the bottom. It happened instantly while driving. I pulled over and duct taped it

A panel on the roof of the vehicle detached while driving at highway speed (60MPH). The panel is held on by bolts and affixed to the roof with glue. The glue failed and the bolts do not attach directly to the roof. The panel is fairly heavy and large and would present a major hazard to a following vehicle. This has been confirmed by the dealer and the detached panel is available for inspection. There was no warning prior to the detachment of the panel. The Winnebago name for the panel is "Panel Trim Front Cap, LH #329370-01-CHT".

The contact owns a 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the awning deployed independently, and two huge metal pieces fell off the vehicle. The failure reoccurred on several occasions. No warning lights were illuminated. Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Winnebago View, Era, and Itasca Navion motorhomes. The retractable awning may extend unintentionally during transit.

Consequence: An awning extending unintentionally during transit may become a distraction or road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install a power switch and a relay to the BT12 module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 11, 2023. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885. This recall is superseded by NHTSA recall 23V-694.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2020-2023 View and Navion vehicles. The LP fuel line is routed near the rear wheel well, which may allow the fuel line to contact the tire and become damaged, resulting in a gas leak.

Consequence: A gas leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2022 Ekko, 2020-2022 Minnie Winnie, Spirit, 2020-2022 View, Navion, and 2020-2021 Vita, and Porto motorhomes. An incorrect hitch label was installed, which can lead to overloading of the vehicle.

Consequence: An overloaded vehicle can cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install the correct labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters were Mailed May 6/2024. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago's number for this recall is 177.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Era, View and Navion recreational vehicles. The retractable awning may extend unintentionally during transit.

Consequence: An awning extending unintentionally during transit may become a distraction or road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install a parking brake interlock module, and update the awning firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 2, 2024. Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2017-2025 Revel, 2020-2025 Navion, Porto, View, Vita, 2022-2023 Adventure Van, and 2024-2025 Ekko motorhomes. Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) wires can be caught in the seat mechanism when the driver or passenger seats are adjusted.

Consequence: Damaged wires can prevent air bags from deploying in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and re-route the wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 26, 2024. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago's number for this recall is 185.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Winnebago View and Navion recreational vehicles equipped with certain Lippert Metallarte door assemblies. The door assembly may have been manufactured with incorrect window adhesion, causing the window to loosen or detached.

Consequence: A window that detaches during transit can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install clips to secure the window to the door as necessary, free of charge. An interim owner letter was mailed December 20, 2024. Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2020-2023 View and Navion recreational vehicles. The rear roof cap aerofence trim may become loose and detach during transit.

Consequence: A detached roof cap can become a road hazard for other vehicles and increase the risk of a crash.
