ON MAY 28, 2019 WHILE PARKED IN A CAMPGROUND MY ATS (AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH) CAUGHT FIRE, ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSIDE THE RIG SHUT DOWN, I SMELLED SMOKE AND IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHAT TO CHECK AS OVER 30 MEMBERS ON THE FUSE FACEBOOK PAGE HAVE DOCUMENTED THIS. I WENT OUTSIDE AND SMOKE WAS BILLOWING OUT THE ELECTRICAL ACCESS DOOR. I IMMEDIATELY UNPLUGGED FROM SHORE POWER. THANK GOD I WAS THERE WHEN IT HAPPENED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NO LONGER IN WARRANTY AND HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPLACEMENT. NUMEROUS MEMBERS HAVE CONTACTED WINNEBAGO WITH…

Owner report 11342761 · 2020-08-02 (August 2, 2020)

TWO DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THIS USED 2017 FUSE, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH FAILED. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ELECTRICAL COMPARTMENT. WE DROVE BACK TO THE DEALER IN LINCOLN NEBRASKA. THE ATS WAS REPLACED. THE NEXT TIME WE PLUGGED INTO SHORE POWER, THE ATS WORKED FOR A FEW HOURS, AND FAILED AGAIN. WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE DEALER. IF WE HAD NOT BEEN WITH THE UNIT, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE FIRE! THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED IN A LEVEL SPOT WITH GREAT CLEARANCE AND AIR FLOW AROUND IT.

Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

16V598000 · Electrical System

Reported: 2016-08-12 (August 12, 2016)

Winnebago Industries, Inc (Winnebago) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Itasca Cambria, 2015-2017 Winnebago ERA, Travato, Fuse, Aspect, and Vista recreational vehicles, and 2015-2017 Itasca Sunstar recreational vehicles manufactured May 6, 2014, to April 22, 2016. The affected vehicles may have a electrical connection to the automatic transfer switch (ATS) that may not be properly tightened.

Consequence: A loose power connection may cause a build up of heat at the connection, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the electrical connection, replacing the ATS box and switch, as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on September 22, 2016. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-800-537-1885.
