I WAS AT A RED-LIGHT AND MY GAS LIGHT CAME ON, AS I WENT TO GO WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN THE BIKE STUTTERED AND SLOWLY WENT. THE GAS LIGHT WENT OFF IN ABOUT A 1/2 MILE, I WAS GOING TO PULL INTO A GAS STATION RIGHT AFTER THE NEXT LIGHT I CAME TO AND THEN MY GAS LIGHT CAME BACK ON ALONG WITH THE OIL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE BIKES RPMS DROPPED AND SHUT OFF. THERE WAS A CAR COMING UP FAST BEHIND ME THAT WAS NOT PAYING ATTENTION AND ALMOST HIT ME AND STARTED HONKING THEIR HORN AT ME. I THEN HAD TO RUN MY BIKE ACROSS A BUSY ROAD DURING MEM…

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60MPH, MY REGULATOR/RECTIFIER QUITE WORKING CAUSING THE ENGINE LOST COMPLETE POWER. I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER AND CROSS 3 LAND OF HEAVY TRAFFIC AVOIDING AND MANAGED TO AVOID GETTING HIT SEVERAL TIMES. *TR AFTER CALLING SEVERAL DEALERS, I TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT EVEN BRAND NEW MOTORCYCLES HAVE COME BACK WITH THIS SAME ISSUE, BUT ARE FIXED ONLY TO COME BACK 7K MILES LATE WITH THE SAME REGULATOR/RECTIFIER PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TRIUMPH DAYTONA 675. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOTORCYCLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,000.

THIS REPORT WAS PREPARED BY DRIVER'S ATTORNEY. PLEASE CONTACT ATTORNEY AT NUMBER/ADDRESS BELOW TO OBTAIN DRIVER'S CONTACT INFORMATION OR FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. ON FEB 1, 2014, DRIVER WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY IN THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, CA AT 60-65 MPH IN CLEAR, DRY CONDITIONS. COMPANION TRAVELING ON ANOTHER MOTORCYCLE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND DRIVER OBSERVED DRIVER GOING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND OBSERVED THE REAR OF DRIVER'S MOTORCYCLE COLLAPSING ONTO THE REAR WHEEL. 12V445000 · Electrical System:Alternator/Generator/Regulator
Reported: 2012-09-12 (September 12, 2012)
Triumph is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Street Triple, Street Triple R, and Daytona 675 motorcycles. The regulator/rectifier can overheat and prevent the motorcycle from charging. Once the battery is fully discharged, the motorcycle may stall.
Consequence: If the motorcycle stalls, there is an increased risk of a crash leading to personal injury.
Remedy: Triumph will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the regulator/rectifier, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or before October 12, 2012. Owners may contact Triumph customer service department at 1-678-854-2010.
