Owner report 736475 · 2000-11-17 (November 17, 2000)
I NOTICED A "CLUNK" THE REAR DRIVE HUB WAS DAMAGED. THE DEALER AND AM. SUZUKI AGREED TO REPLACE THE DAMPER, BUT IDENTIFIED THE DEFECTIVE REAR HUB AS "COSEMETIC" ONLY AND REFUSED TO REPLACE IT. THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED IN OCTOBER 1999 AT THE SAME TIME THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM-FUEL PUMP SCREENS CAUSED INTERMITTENT STALLS, SURGES; THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WHILE THE FUEL DELIVERY PROBLEM HAS BEEN DENIED, FORCING ME TO USE FUEL INJECTION CLEANER. CAM CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED AGAIN OCTOBER 2000, THOUSAND OAKS SUZ…

HAVE SEEN AND READ REPORTS THAT THE ALUMINUM SUBFRAME ON THIS '99 MOTORCYCLE IS UNSAFE. IT IS SUSPECTED THAT THIS CRITICAL COMPONENT WILL FAIL WITH GREATER FREQUENCY OVER TIME DUE TO FATIQUE. NLM

I WOULD LIKE TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION OF IMPROPER WELDING OF THE ALUMINUM SUBFRAME ( LOCATED UNDER PASSENGER SEAT ) ON THE '19992000 SUZUKI HAYABUSA. THERE HAVE BEEN INCIDENTS OF THE SUBFRAME BREAKING AT THE WELDS, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND SUZUKI IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY ON ANY TYPE OF RECALL. HOWEVER ON TH 2001 & 2002 MODELS THEY MADE THEM WITH A STEEL SUBFRAME.MORE ACCIDENTS ARE WAITING TO HAPPEN IF THIS PROBLEM DOESN'T GET RESOLVED.SUZUKI NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.*AK

WHEN RELEASING THE CLUTCH A BANGING NOISE OCCURS IN THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. THIS COULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE MOTOR TO LOCK UP. DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK

Recall history
1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
99V270000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine
Reported: 1999-10-12 (October 12, 1999)
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE SPRING IN THE CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER CAN BREAK ALLOWING THE CAM CHAIN TO JUMP TO THE WRONG POSITION ON THE CAM SHAFT SPROCKETS. IF THE CHAIN JUMPS TO THE WRONG POSITION, SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE COULD OCCUR CAUSING SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE.
Consequence: SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE COULD CAUSE THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCKUP, DISTURBING THE RIDER'S ABILITY TO CONTROL THE MOTORCYCLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ORIGINAL CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER WITH A REVISED CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER.
