I BOUGHT A 2006 SUBARU WRX ONLY TWO MONTHS AGO. ON A TRIP LAST MONTH (CAR WAS ONLY A MONTH OLD AT THE TIME) I HAD SOME SMALL DEBRIS HIT MY WINDSHIELD, NOTHING REALLY OUT OF THE ORDINARY, ESPECIALLY HERE IN COLORADO. BUT, THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I WENT OUT TO THE CAR, I HAD A CRACK THAT RAN ACROSS MORE THAN HALF OF MY WINDSHIELD. I BOUGHT MY SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI BRAND NEW, AND AFTER HAVING IT ABOUT 4 MONTHS A TRANSMISSION MOUNT CALLED THE PITCH ROD MOUNT BROKE IN HALF. THE MOUNT BROKE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, AND RESULTED IN DAMAGING THE CLUTCH LINE. THE FLUID IN THE CLUTCH LINE WAS DRAINED AND THIS RESULTED IN MY GEARS SCRATCHING AND OVERALL RUINED MY TRANSMISSION. IN THE END I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO REPLACE THE MOUNT, CLUTCH LINE AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE RE-BUILT. NOW I WAS NOT AWARE AT THE TIME THAT THE MOUNT WAS BROKEN SO TO MY SURPRISE…

THE HID HEADLIGHTS ON THE SUBARU->IMPREZA->WRX->STI SIT WAY TOO LOW. I CANNOT SEE THE ENTIRE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME. THE HEADLIGHTS NEED TO BE RAISED UP SO PEOPLE CAN SEE THE ROAD BETTER. THE HEADLIGHTS CAN BE MOVED UP AND DOWN WITH A SWITCH ON THE STI AND EVEN WHEN SET AT THE HIGHEST SETTINGS THE HEADLIGHTS END ABOUT 20 FEET ON THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS FORCED OFF THE ROAD BY A CAR THAT PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME FROM MY RIGHT AND STOPPED IN MY LANE. I SWERVED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID THE CAR AND CORRECTED TO THE RIGHT, AT THIS TIME THERE WAS NO MORE ROAD TO DRIVE ON. DRIVING IN RAIN ON HIGHWAY W/O USING THE BRAKES (NO BRAKING) FOR ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES WILL RESULT IN A DELAY OF 3-4 SECONDS BEFORE ACTUAL BRAKE EFFECTS START TO FEEL. NEW VEHICLE PURCHASED IN APRIL 2006, VEHICLE IS 13 MONTHS OLD APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES. TWO FRONT TIRES HAVE SIDE WALL FAILURE. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE AIR BAG OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MAY HAVE BEEN PINCHED DURING PRODUCTION. PINCHING OF THE WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN THE FLOOR CROSSMEMBER AND THE SEAT MOUNTING BRACKET COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT.

Consequence: THE PASSENGER'S FRONT AIR BAG COULD BECOME DISABLED AND MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT. ALSO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT COULD CAUSE A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE WIRING HAD BEEN INCORRECTLY ROUTED UNDER THE SEAT BRACKET. IF SO, THE DEALER WILL REPAIR ANY DAMAGED WIRING, REROUTE AND SECURE THE WIRING HARNESS IN THE CORRECT LOCATION, AND RE-CALIBRATE THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM AS NECESSARY. SUBARU IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002-2007 IMPREZA, MODEL YEAR 2003-2008 FORESTER, AND MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 SAAB 9-2X VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 5, 2000 THROUGH NOVEMBER 26, 2007 ORIGINALLY SOLD, OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN, MASSACHUSETTS, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW YORK, PENNSYLVANIA, VERMONT, WISCONSIN, CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, MAINE, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW JERSEY, OHIO, RHODE ISLAND, WEST VIRGINIA AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS MAY BREAK AT THE HANGER BRACKETS DUE TO CORROSION IF THE HANGER BRACKET IS EXPOSED TO SALTY AND HUMID ENVIRONMENTS SUCH AS ROADS CONTAINING SNOW MELTING AGENT.

Consequence: A BROKEN CONTROL ARM CAN RESULT IN THE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: SUBARU WILL HANDLE THEIR VEHICLES AND SAAB WILL HANDLE THEIRS. DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE DEGREE OF CORROSION OF THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS, AND WILL EITHER RUSTPROOF OR REPLACE THEM.
