ALL FOUR TIRE SIDEWALLS FAILED WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH. MOTOR HOME SIDEWALL HAD A ZIPPER RIP 18 INCHES ON EVERY TIRE. MICHELIN ,XRV, SIZE 255/80R22.5, DOT NUMBER B6HAK3X358. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR FATALITIES TO REPORT. *AK AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE, MICHELIN STATED IT WAS DUE TO UNDER INFLATION. FROM THAT POINT ON INFLATION WAS CHECKED BEFORE EVERY TRIP. AFTER THE SECOND FAILURE, MICHELIN STATED IT WAS DUE TO OVERLOADING. AFTER THE THIRD AND FOURTH FAILURE, MICHELIN STATED OVERLOAD OR UNDER INFLATION. MICHELIN CHANGED THEIR ORIGIN…

99V329000 · Electrical System:Wiring
Reported: 1999-11-22 (November 22, 1999)
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTOR HOMES. THE ELECTRICAL CONDUIT WAS NOT WRAPPED WITH A HEAT SHIELD ALLOWING THE CONDUIT TO GET TOO HOT AND SAG.
Consequence: IF THE CONDUIT SAGS, IT GETS TOO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST AND WILL OVERHEAT THE COPPER WIRING INSIDE AND BURN, INCREASING THE RISK OF A FIRE.
Remedy: OVERLAND HAS GONE OUT OF BUSINESS. DEALERS WERE TO WRAP THE CONDUIT WITH HEAT DEFLECTOR MATERIAL, ADD 2 CLAMP RINGS, AND A MOUNTING CLAMP TO REATTACH THE CONDUIT UP TOWARD THE FRAME.
