Owner report 10274698 · 2009-06-23 (June 23, 2009)
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2005 MERCEDES G-55 WHICH HAD AN AFTERMARKET DVD SYSTEM WITH SCREENS IN BOTH FRONT HEADRESTS. UPON REMOVING THE HEADRESTS TO INSTALL SEAT COVERS, WE DISCOVERED THE DVD INSTALLER HAD CUT INTO THE HEADREST POSTS, THUSLY RUINING THE INTEGRITY OF THE HEADRESTS. I HAVE ORDERED NEW HEADRESTS FROM MERCEDES 6 WEEKS AGO. WE BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND ALSO FEAR THAT MANY AFTERMARKET DVD SYSTEM INSTALLERS MAY BE CUTTING THE HEADREST POSTS AND THE CONSUMER IS COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THE DAMAGE DONE TO THEIR HEADRES…

Recall history
2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
05V378000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 2005-08-29 (August 29, 2005)
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE FUEL RETURN HOSE BETWEEN FUEL TANK AND RETURN LINE CAN BE PERMEATED WITH FUEL. THIS SITUATION RESULTS FROM THE EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF THE HOSE UNDER PRESSURE CAUSING MICROCRACKS IN THE HOSE MATERIAL.
Consequence: THESE MICROCRACKS MAY CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ALL FUEL RETURN HOSES WITH THE APPROPRIATE HOSES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MERCEDES BENZ AT 1-800-367-6372.
NHTSA campaign record ↗10V366000 · Exterior Lighting:Turn Signal
Reported: 2010-08-05 (August 5, 2010)
MERCEDES-BENZ IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002-2010 G-CLASS VEHICLES FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "'LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THESE VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH A GRILL COVER FOR FRONT TURN SIGNAL PROTECTION THAT, WHILE PERMISSIBLE, MAY IMPACT OVER TIME THE SIGNAL'S ABILITY TO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 108.
Consequence: THE SIGNAL LIGHT'S VISIBILITY TO OTHER MOTORISTS MAY BE REDUCED OVER TIME, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL IMPROVED TURN LIGHT UNITS OPTIMIZED FOR USAGE WITH GRILLS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2010 OR EARLY JANUARY 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MERCEDES-BENZ AT 1-800-367-6372.
