CONTROLS ON STEERING COLUMN PERIODICALLY DO NOT WORK. WHILE MOST OF THESE ARE CONVENIENCE ITEMS, THE HORN ALSO DID NOT WORK. HAPPENED 4 TIMES--12/16 DRIVING TO WORK; 12/'20 DRIVING TO AND FROM DULLES AIRPORT; 12/26 IN THE MORNING. EACH TIME THE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW 30 DEGREES F. DEALER SERVICED VEHICLE ON 12/22--SAID WIRING WAS REPAIRED BUT EXPERIENCED SAME PROBLEM AGAIN ON 12/26. RESTARTING CAR DOES NOT RESET THE CONTROLS. CONSUMER STATED 2005 E-500 MERCEDES-BENZ DID NOT STOP AND JUMPED OFF CURB AND CRASHED. *BF THE VEHICLE JUMPED THE CURB AND CRASHED INTO A GLASS DOOR OF A DENTIST OFFICE AND SIDE SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE. DT: 2005 MERCEDES-BENZ E500. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT RAN INTO A WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THE CONSUMER'S FOOT MUST HAVE BEEN ON THE ACCELERATOR, NOT THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM. ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT, THE CAR GEAR WAS SHIFTED TO DRIVE, BUT RATHER THAN GOING FORWARD, IT PROCEEDED TO ROLL BACKWARDS ON THE INCLINE ON WHICH IT WAS PARKED AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 E500 MERCEDES BENZ. A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL IS PRESENT THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE AND IN HIS GARAGE. FUEL ALSO LEAKS OUT OF THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN AN ALERT THAT THE SRS SYSTEM HAD DETECTED A FAILURE AND LIT UP ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER. HAD A AN INDEPENDENT MERCEDES SHOP READ CODES WHICH WERE: FAILURE OF SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM ON A 2005 MERCEDES E500 WAGON. THE "SRS" LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2001-2011 vehicles. The bonding between the glass panel and the sliding roof frame may deteriorate, possibly resulting in the glass panel detaching from the vehicle. Consequence: A detached glass panel can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the glass panel bonding and replace the sliding roof, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 10, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2020040011.

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2001-2011 C-Class, CLK, E-Class, and CLS vehicles. Please refer to MBUSA's recall report for specific vehicle model details. The glass sunroof panel may not be properly secured and may detach.

Consequence: A detached sunroof panel may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the sunroof panel as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 3, 2023.
