2006 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLS55: complaints, problems and recalls

THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE THREE WHEELS AND ONE TIRE IN LESS THAN THIRTY DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE 2006 MERCEDES BENZ CLS55. *MR THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS A RESULT OF A POT HOLE, THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED NINE DAYS AFTER THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK AND DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT REAR AND FRONT WHEELS WERE DAMAGED. I PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT (NVS-216 MEC; REF. NO. 10130172) CONCERNING THE FAILURE OF 3 RIMS/WHEELS AND TWO TIRES ON MY 2006 MERCEDES CLS55. SINCE THAT TIME WITH LESS THAN 11,000 MILES ON THE CAR THERE HAS BEEN AN ADDITIONAL FAILURE OF FOUR MORE RIMS AND FOUR MORE TIRES. THIS IS A TOTAL OF 7 RIMS AND TIRES IN LESS THAN 7 MONTHS.*JB

NO WARNING EVENTS. AUTOMATIC SHIFTER FREEZES IN GEAR. REPAIRED ONCE - RECURRED. REPAIRED AGAIN - RECURRED. WIRING REROUTED TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT - SHIFTER NOW JERKS AS IT GOES INTO GEAR. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT FAILURE AGAIN. MERCEDES CLAIMED THAT A CASE FILE WAS SET UP AND THAT WE WERE THE ONLY INCIDENT IN THE US. WE CALLED AFTER THE MOST RECENT INCIDENCE AND WE WERE INFORMED THAT NO CASE FILE WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE DEALER. MY 2006 MERCEDES CLS55 AMG HAS HAD 6 DENTED RIMS WITHIN THE FIRST 13 MONTHS (11,000 MI). MY DEALER SOLD ME WHEEL AND TIRE INSURANCE, BUT STATES THE RIM MUST BE CRACKED BEFORE IT WILL BE REPLACED. I'VE ALREADY REPLACED TWO RIMS AT $1100 EACH, AND THE CAR IS ALMOST UNDRIVEABLE DUE TO VIBRATION. THE TIRES SUPPLIED WITH THE CAR ARE COMPLETELY WORN OUT, AND ONE HAS A SIDEWALL BUBBLE. I OWN A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ CLS AMG. THE RIDE HAS DEGRADED AND IT NOW VIBRATES SIGNIFICANTLY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY STATE ALL 4 RIMS ARE BENT. THIS IS PROBABLY TRUE HOWEVER, THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN CAREFULLY AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED WHICH WOULD CAUSE ALL 4 WHEELS TO BE BENT. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED OTHERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. I HAVE A 2006 MERCEDES-BENZ CLS500. WHEN FACED OR PARKING DOWNWARDS ON A HILL, THE CAR ROLLS FORWARD WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO CHANGE GEARS. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BRAKE IN TIME, YOU WILL HIT SOMETHING. GASOLINE LEAK CREATING EXTREME ODOR INSIDE AND AROUND CAR EXTERIOR. DEALERSHIP STATES FUEL SENDING UNITS AND TANK NEED TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. WHENEVER I FILL THE GAS TANK FULL WITH FUEL, THERE IS AN OVER WHELMING SMELL OF GAS IN THE GARAGE. THERE APPEARS TO BE A LEAK WHEN THE TANK IS NEAR FULL. ONCE I DRIVE THE CAR AROUND FOR A WHILE, THE SMELL OF GAS GOES AWAY. *TR

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2001-2011 vehicles. The bonding between the glass panel and the sliding roof frame may deteriorate, possibly resulting in the glass panel detaching from the vehicle. Consequence: A detached glass panel can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the glass panel bonding and replace the sliding roof, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 10, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2020040011.

Reported: 2021-03-19 (March 19, 2021)

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2006-2007 C350, C230, C280, CLK350, E320CDI, E350 Wagon, E350, 2006 C55 AMG, CLK500, CLS500, CLS55 AMG, E500 Wagon, E500, E55 AMG, 2007 CLK550, CLS550, CLS63 AMG, E550, E63 AMG, and E63 Wagon AMG vehicles. The bonding between the glass panel and the sliding roof frame may deteriorate, possibly causing the glass panel to detach from the vehicle.

Consequence: A detached glass panel can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the glass panel bonding and replace the sliding roof, as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed May 7, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. This recall is an expansion of recall number 19V-918. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2021040012.

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2001-2011 C-Class, CLK, E-Class, and CLS vehicles. Please refer to MBUSA's recall report for specific vehicle model details. The glass sunroof panel may not be properly secured and may detach.

Consequence: A detached sunroof panel may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the sunroof panel as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 3, 2023. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. This recall expands NHTSA recall number 19V-918. MBUSA's numbers for this recall are 2023010004, 2023010005, and 2023010006.
