TERRIBLE ROTTEN EGG SMELL COMING INSIDE THE CAR AS WELL AT THE EXHAUST PIPE. OCCURRED SINCE NEW, ACTUALLY IT HAS 11000 MILES. COMPLAIN SUBMITTED TO DEALER AND THEY DENIED RESPONSIBILITY AND GAVE ME SERVICE BULLETIN NO 01-029/02 BLAMING TO "HIGH AMOUNTS OF SULFUR ON FUEL", SMELL CAUSES NAUSEA. *NLM

Owner report 10016840 · 2003-05-01 (May 1, 2003)

I AM EXPERIENCING A MALFUNCTIONING NUMBER 1 SPARK PLUG FOR MY 2001 MAZDA MPV DX. PRIOR TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES SERIOUS HESITATION WHEN SPEEDING UP. I LIVE NEAR MANY RAILROAD CROSSINGS AND THE HESITATION IS SERIOUS ENOUGH FOR ME TO QUESTION WHETHER THE VEHICLE WILL STOP ALTOGETHER. I HAVE HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SERVICED THREE TIMES. EACH TIME THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE NUMBER 1 SPARK PLUG IS CRACKED. THE SPARK PLUG IS COVERED BY THE STANDARD WARRANTY, SO THE DEALER REPLACES IT WITHOUT QUESTION. I…

Owner report 10018622 · 2003-05-13 (May 13, 2003)

PURCHASED THE CAR, DROVE IT UP A HILL HAD A TERRIBLE EGG SMELL SEEMS TO BE EVERY TIME I GO UP A HILL. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS THE GAS I WAS USING. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER GARAGE AND THEY SAY IT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WON'T DO ANYTHING THE SMELL IS VERY EMBARRASSING. WE BOUGHT THIS FOR A FAMILY CAR NOW NO ONE WANTS TO RIDE IN IT. MAYBE THAT'S WHY IT'S A 2001 AND ONLY HAS 12,000 MILES ON IT. *JB

Owner report 10023162 · 2003-06-16 (June 16, 2003)

I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH THE MAZDA MPV 2001. THE SECOND ROW OF SEATS COME TOGETHER IF YOU WANT THEM TO. WHEN APART, THE CAPTAINS CHAIR BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT DOES NOT AN ARMREST BUT THE OTHER CAPTAIN CHAIR DOES. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A VAN THAT DID NOT HAVE AN ARMREST ON BOTH OUTSIDE SEATS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN IF YOU ARE IN A SPIN OUT AND NEED SOMETHING TO GRAB ONTO, THERE IS NOTHING THERE IN THAT SEAT. IT IS AN AUTOMATIC REACTION TO GRAB WHERE THE ARMREST SHOULD BE. ALSO, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT PLACING A CHILD SAFETY…

Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

01V382000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 2001-12-17 (December 17, 2001)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN MINI VANS WITHOUT ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEMS (ABS) FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 135, "PASSENGER CAR BRAKE SYSTEMS." DUE TO INAPPROPRIATE BRAKE PIPE LAYOUT, THESE VEHICLES DO NOT MEET THE BRAKE STOPPING DISTANCE WITH PARTIAL FAILURE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD.

Consequence: IF PARTIAL FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM, THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE COULD INCREASE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE BRAKE SYSTEM. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 15, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500, OPTION #4.

Reported: 2002-08-05 (August 5, 2002)

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, SOME OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULES WERE NOT PROPERLY WELDED AND MAY NOT DEPLOY IN A COLLISION.

Consequence: THE SEAT OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY PROTECTED IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 4, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500.

04V234000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Cables

Reported: 2004-05-19 (May 19, 2004)

ON CERTAIN MINIVANS EQUIPPED WITH CRUISE CONTROL, THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR CABLE MAY BE BROKEN DUE TO INSUFFICIENT STRENGTH (GROUP 1). ALSO INCLUDED ARE CERTAIN 2000-2001 MINIVANS EQUIPPED WITH CRUISE CONTROL BUILT BETWEEN MARCH 31, 1999 AND MARCH 31, 2001, THAT HAVE HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL REPAIRED AND POSSIBLY HAD A DEFECTIVE CABLE INSTALLED DURING THAT REPAIR (GROUP 2).

Consequence: IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE BROKEN ACTUATOR CABLE MAY BE OUT OF POSITION AND COULD INTERFERE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE ACCELERATOR CABLE, PREVENTING A DECREASE IN ENGINE SPEED WHILE DRIVING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ACTUATOR CABLE. OWNER NOTIFICATION FOR VEHICLES INVOLVED IN GROUP 1 BEGAN ON JULY 7, 2004. OWNER NOTIFICATION FOR VEHICLES INVOLVED IN GROUP 2 BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500.
