2017 Maserati GHIBLI: complaints, problems and recalls

MY COMPLAINT IS REGARDING MY 2017 MASERATI GHIBLI SQ4. WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR AT STOP LIGHT THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND PUTS ITSELF IN NEUTRAL. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND HAPPENS ROUGHLY ONCE A MONTH. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON THE 2017 LAVANTE WHICH SHARES THE SAME ENGINE AND STOP START SYSTEM WITH THE 2017 GHIBLI. BUT FOR SOME REASON MASERATI HAS ISSUED A RECALL ONLY ON THE LEVANTE NOT THE GHIBLI. THE CAR HAS BEEN INTO SERVICE FOR THIS ISSUE 5 TIMES IN 9 MONTHS. POWER TRUNK DOES NOT HAVE SAFETY STOP SENSOR. MY WIFE WAS GRABBING THINGS FROM THE TRUNK WHEN THE TRUNK LID STARTED CLOSING AND DOES NOT STOP WHEN IT WAS CLOSING ON HER HEAD. SHE WAS ABLE TO FORCE HERSELF OUT AND THE TRUNK LID CONTINUED TO CLOSE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS IT CAN CLOSE ON ANYONE INCLUDING CHILDREN WITHOUT A SAFETY FEATURE TO STOP AND REOPEN WHEN SENSING PRESSURE.

THE FRONT WHEEL WELL LINERS WILL DETACH FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. THE RETAINER CLIPS WOULD BREAK AND THE FELT LINER WOULD BE LODGED AGAINST THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS. THIS ALSO ALLOWS DEBRIS TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE BAY AND TRANSMISSION WHICH COULD CAUSE DAMAGE AND MALFUNCTIONS AS WELL AS PREMATURE WEAR AND TEAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 MASERATI GHIBLI. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. I HAVE A RECALL LETTER DATED MAY 18, 2018 RECALL#18V-173 MY VEHICLE WHEN BEING OPERATED AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES PER HOUR (LOW ENGINE RPM), WHICH CAN BE ENCOUNTERED DURING HEAVY STOP-AND-GO (BUMPER-TO-BUMPER) TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, CAUSES THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO FIX AN ISSUE WHERE THERE IS NO SOUND COMING OUT OF THE SPEAKERS EVEN THOUGH THE COMMAND CENTER HAS THE VISUAL OF EVERYTHING FROM THE GPS, TO THE PARKING SENSOR TO THE TELEPHONE. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE AFTER IT RAINS AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSINUATED THAT IT MIGHT BE CAUSE BY A DEFECTIVE WATER DRAIN DESIGN. AFTER 365 IGNITION FLASH RECALL, THE CAR STARTED TO FAIL TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY ON DEMAND WHILE IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. I FELT LIKE THE GEARS WERE SLIPPING, DID NOT ENGAGE THE PROPER GEAR ON ACCELERATION. CAUSING THE CAR TO LOOSE SPEED INSTEAD OF INCREASING SPEED. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED WITH MASERATI CORPORATE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ELECTRONIC AND WOULD HAVE TO BE CODED IN ITALY AT THE MANUFACTURING PLACE. I HAVE COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR ABOUT NOISE ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND TRANSMISSION. THE CAR SINCE PURCHASED ON 2016 HAS BEEN OUT FOR SERVICE 62 DAYS. Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2017 Quattroporte, Ghible, and Levante vehicles manufactured July 1, 2016, to November 14, 2016. In temperatures below freezing, the entertainment telematics module (ETM) may place itself in a protection mode, disabling the back-up camera.

Consequence: If the back-up camera is inoperable, it may be more difficult for the operator to see people or objects behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will update the ETM software, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2016. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 327.

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2017 Ghibli and Quattroporte vehicles and one model year 2016 Ghibli vehicle manufactured February 29, 2016, to October 29, 2016. These vehicles are equipped with certain Pirelli P Zero All Season tires, size 275/40R19 101W, that may develop cracks in their lower sidewall, possibly resulting in a loss of air.

Consequence: A loss of air may result in tire failure or a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected tires, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2016. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 324.

Reported: 2016-11-28 (November 28, 2016)

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2017 Quattroporte and Ghibli vehicles manufactured July 1, 2016, to October 12, 2016. The rear differential unit pinion nut may not have been properly tightened, allowing the pinion nut to loosen.

Consequence: A loose pinion gear may bind, possibly resulting in the rear wheels locking up and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear differential unit pinion nut torque, and, as necessary, replace the rear differential unit, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2016. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 328.

Reported: 2017-01-20 (January 20, 2017)

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Quattroporte and Ghibli, and 2017 Levante vehicles. Adjusting the front seats may cause the seat wiring harness to rub, possibly resulting in an electrical short.

Consequence: An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles, replacing the seat wiring harness, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 26, 2017. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 342.

Reported: 2018-03-14 (March 14, 2018)

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain 2017 Quattroporte vehicles equipped with V6 engines and Maserati Ghibli vehicles. Due to an engine software problem, at slow speeds such as stop-and-go traffic, the transmission may unexpectedly shift into neutral or park, or the engine may shut off.

Consequence: If the transmission shifts into neutral or park unexpectedly, or if the engine shuts down without warning, it can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will re-flash the software for the engine control module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 2018. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 365.
