HEADLIGHT OUTPUT IS NOT SUFFICIENT, LIGHTING IS VERY BAD, EVEN WITH BRAND NEW FACTORY REPLACEMENTS. IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS CAR AT NIGHT, AS THE ROAD IS NOT LIT OUT ENOUGH TO SEE PERSONS, ANIMALS OR OBSTRUCTIONS IN THE WAY. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE CARS AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO RESOLVE THAT, AS IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMEONE WILL HAVE AN ACCIDENT, HOPEFULLY NOT INVOLVING THE LOSS OF HUMAN LIFE. *JB

HEADLIGHTS ARE TO DIM TO SEE AT NIGHT. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS AND NEAR MISSES ARE NEEDED BEFORE THIS PROBLEM IS FIXED. IT'S NOT JUST A YELLOWING OF THE LENS, THE REFLECTIVE MATERIAL ON THE INSIDE IS ACTUALLY BURNT! DOES SOMEBODY HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THIS PROBLEM IS FIXED. A SIMPLE RECALL OF THE DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY COULD SAVE LIVES. I CAME WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING SOMEONE BECAUSE THE LIGHT OUTPUT IS POOR. I WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT 20 MPH!!! *CB

WHILE DRIVING HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME AT NIGHT AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR FOUR DAYS, I COULD NOT DISTINGUISH IF MY HEADLIGHTS WERE ON OR NOT. I THOUGHT MY HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING BUT I DID CHECK TO SEE IF THEY WERE OPERATIONAL THE DAY I PURCHASED THE CAR. IT WAS A DARK AND RAINY NIGHT AND THE OLDER NEIGHBORHOOD IN WHICH I HAVE LIVED NOW FOR EIGHT YEARS DOES NOT HAVE ADEQUET LIGHTING, AS A RESULT OF POOR HEADLIGHTS I COULD HAVE INJURED A PEDESTRIAN THAT EVING TRYING TO TURN ONTO MY STREET. *AK

Reported: 2007-08-03 (August 3, 2007)
ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS, PASSENGER VEHICLES, SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, AND MOTOR HOMES CHASSIS, THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH MAY, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, LEAK INTERNALLY AND THEN OVERHEAT, SMOKE, OR BURN.
Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS. OWNERS OF THE PASSENGER CARS INCLUDED IN THIS CAMPAIGN WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO RETURN THEIR VEHICLES TO THEIR DEALERS TO HAVE THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH DISCONNECTED AS AN INTERIM REPAIR. AS SOON AS REPAIR PARTS ARE AVAILABLE (EXPECTED OCTOBER 2007), OWNERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO RETURN TO THE DEALERS FOR INSTALLATION OF A FUSED WIRING HARNESS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 13, 2007, AND MAILING COMPLETED BY SEPTEMBER 19, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-888-222-2751.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE HEADLIGHTS CAN FLASH INTERMITTENTLY AS A RESULT OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER OPENING. THE VEHICLE'S HEADLIGHTS CAN GO OUT FOR BRIEF INTERVALS.
Consequence: LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS DURING VEHICLE OPERATION CAN AFFECT A DRIVER'S ABILITY TO NAVIGATE THE ROADWAY AND REDUCE THE VISIBILITY OF THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A HEADLIGHT SWITCH THAT INCORPORATES A CRICUIT BREAKER OF REVISED DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF A WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR AND WIRING, IF NEEDED.
