WHILE TRAVELING IN THE US, I NOTICED EXCESSIVE FLEXING OF PINBOX OF FIFTHWHEEL TRAILER WHILE TOWING. VISIBLE UP-AND-DOWN MOVEMENT OF PINBOX FRAME RELATIVE TO THE FRONT STRUCTURE OF THE TRAILER. UPON INSPECTION, SEVERAL CRACKS AND TEARS WERE DISCOVERED IN THE METAL OF THE TUBULAR CROSSMEMBERS ADJACENT TO THE WELDS WHERE THE PINBOX WAS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. THE CRACKS WERE SPREADING, AND WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN COMPLETE SEPARATION OF THE PINBOX FROM THE TRAILER, AND RESULTANT SEPARATION OF THE TRAILER FROM THE TOW VEHICLE. I CONTACTED KEYSTONE,…

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 KEYSTONE LAREDO 25RL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE PIN BOX FRACTURED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THREE OF FOUR CONNECTING POINTS WERE TORN . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL WELDING SHOP WHO CONFIRMED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE PIN BOX WAS DEFECTIVE AND PROVIDED A TEMPORARY FIX. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 KEYSTONE LAREDO TRAILER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER, WHICH WAS CONNECTED TO THE BUMPER, FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE SPARE TIRE AND BUMPER TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED, BUT THE CONTACT LEFT A MESSAGE AND RECEIVED NO RETURN CALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling various 2003-2018 Crossroads, Dutchmen, and Keystone recreational trailers equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V755-5127.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Keystone will notify owners and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-574-535-2100, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Keystone's number for this recall is 17-307.
