2023 Hyundai SONATA: complaints, problems and recalls

On a highway cruising at 70mph with the ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control ) on and following distance set at max a car from another lane turned into my lane and then continued to an off ramp. My car initially braked and then downshifted from 8th to maybe 4th and accelerated hard - scaring me and my passengers. P074D73 is code showing up coming up and going off after sometime. This is code something related to the Transmission. Worried if it could cause the Transmission to fail which may result in loss of power during the drive which could potentially cause fatal accidents. It occured Multiple times. While on the highway, my car suddenly started shaking violently and losing power. I lost steering and was unable to accelerate. I pulled over to the side of the road and the vehicle would not start again. I took it in and a fuel injector was stuck open and it had flooded my engine. This was the second time with this vehicle that this happened.

I was driving on the freeway, at the speed limit, cruising along. Then all of a sudden, my vehicle starts to decelerate from 65 MPH and I push the gas, thinking I must have let up too much on the pedal. However, that only causes the RPM to drastically rise with NO change in my speed. I thankfully managed to maneuver from the far left lane to the freeway shoulder on the far right. I want to say through this message exactly a month ago that I bought my Hyundai sonata sel 2023 and today driving the car it completely lost power when accelerating so I had to stop immediately I put my turn signals after that I turned off the car! The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to approximately 30 MPH and stalled. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to veer the vehicle off the road. This is the second incident with the same issue. Both times the car starts to shutter and when you give it gas it doesn't do anything and then it just dies. No steering no brakes nothing. You may or may not be able to restart the car to move it if it breaks down when it's in traffic, luckily we were able to get it fired up long enough to move it off the road.

Reported: 2023-07-27 (July 27, 2023)

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Palisade Tucson, 2023 Sonata, Elantra, and Kona vehicles. The electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly may contain damaged electrical components that can cause the pump controller to overheat.

Consequence: An electric oil pump assembly that overheats increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed starting September 7, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 246.

Reported: 2025-11-17 (November 17, 2025)

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Sonata vehicles. A damaged check valve can allow air to enter the fuel tank, causing it to expand and contact hot exhaust components, melting the tank.

Consequence: A melted fuel tank can leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the check valve. The fuel tank assembly will be inspected for damage and replaced if necessary. Additionally, dealers will inspect and update the engine control unit software. All repairs will be performed as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning March 13, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 286. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 19, 2025.
