I HAVE A 200 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT EVERYTHING UNDERNEATH HAS ROTTED. HERE IS THE LIST OF WHAT M Y LOCAL GARAGE HAS REPLACED IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. STEERING BOX ROTTED OUT, BRAKELINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE, O2 CENSOR, GAS TANK FELL OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK, WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT, FRONT SIC ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES SINCE 2000. (LITTLE EXCESSIVE?) EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE ROTTED OFF, SHICKS ROTTED OFF AFTER FOUR YEARS, EXHAUST SYSTEM REPLACED 3 TIMES, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST I NOW HAVE A BROKEN LEAF SPRING. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH A TEKONSHA TRAILER HITCH WIRING HARNESS AND CONVERTER AND DISTRIBUTED BY GULF STATES TOYOTA (TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, LOUISIANA, ARKANSAS, AND MISSISSIPPI). AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT CAN OCCUR IF WATER ENTERS THE CONVERTER HOUSING.
Consequence: THIS SHORT CIRCUIT COULD CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE CONVERTER, AND IF A TRAILER IS BEING TOWED AT THE TIME, CAN ALSO CAUSE INOPERATIVE TRAILER LIGHTS.
Remedy: THIS RECALL HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY RECALL NO. 02V-050.

CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH A TEKONSHA TRAILER HITCH WIRING HARNESS AND CONVERTER AND DISTRIBUTED BY GULF STATES TOYOTA (TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, LOUISIANA, ARKANSAS, AND MISSISSIPPI). THE CIRCUITRY USED IN THE CONVERTER, WHICH IS INADEQUATE TO MANAGE PROPERLY VEHICLE AND/OR TRAILER-SIDE VOLTAGE SPIKES. IF THE CONVERTER IS EXPOSED TO A VOLTAGE SPIKE, IT COULD CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT OR OPEN CIRCUIT WITHIN THE CONVERTER.
Consequence: THIS SHORT CIRCUIT COULD CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE CONVERTER, AND IF A TRAILER IS BEING TOWED AT THE TIME, CAN ALSO CAUSE INOPERATIVE TRAILER LIGHTS.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIRE HARNESS AND CONVERTER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 22, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT GULF STATES TOYOTA AT 1-800-444-1074.
