WE HAVE A 2002 DODGE INTREPID WITH THE POLICE PACKAGE. THE VEHICLE HAS 21,000 MILES AND WE HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE ROTORS 4 TIMES. WE ARE A SECURITY FIRM AND THUS WE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A HIGH SPEED CHASE AND ONLY DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS. WE HAVE THREE OTHER DIFFERENT VEHICLES AND HAVE NOT HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH THEM. IT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE DEALER THAT WE ARE MISUSING THE BRAKES. I HAVE TALKED WITH ANOTHER POLICE AGENCY IN THE AREA AND THEY HAVE ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS WE. I BELIEVE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAK…

THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT HOUSING ATTACHMENT BLOCKED THE VIEW FROM THE WINDOW WHEN TRYING TO OVERCOME BLIND SPOT. THE BELT HOUSING ATTACHMENT TO THE VEHICLE'S FRAME WAS VERY WIDE. MY VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY STALL. THE CAR CAN BE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND THE FRONT END WILL LOCK UP ON IT AS IF IT WERE BEING PUT IN PARK. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I TO HAVE PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THEN RESTART THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY I HAD A NEAR MISS ACCIDENT WHICH TWO INDIVIDUALS ALMOST HIT ME DUE TO THE CAR LOCKING UP. *JB

Reported: 2003-02-05 (February 5, 2003)
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, SEAT BACK RECLINER BOLT BREAKAGE CAN OCCUR RESULTING IN THE SEAT BACK RECLINING UNEXPECTEDLY.
Consequence: IF THE SEAT BACK UNEXPECTEDLY RECLINES WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN, IT COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE RECLINER BOLTS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON APRIL 23, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
