GM HAD A RECALL (05V379000) THAT DID NOT INCLUDE THE YEAR OF MY SUBURBAN (1999) NOR MY STATE (COLORADO).....YET, MY PROBLEM IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM THAT FORCED THIS RECALL. I THINK THEY SHOULD INCLUDE COLORADO AND 1999 SUBURBAN'S - I FIND THIS TO BE HIGHLY UNFAIR. TODAY THE ABS ACTED UP AND CAUSED MY PREGNANT WIFE TO NEARLY HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AT 5 MPH, THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED WHICH CAUSED AN INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE FUSE TO THE TO THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM. UPDATED 09/11/06. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL # 05V379000 PERTAINING TO THE HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.

I BOUGHT A NEW 1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500LT IN JANUARY 2000. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR, THE BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE ENDURED THIS ANNUAL REPLACEMENT OF BRAKES EVER SINCE. SIX REPLACEMENTS HAVE OCCURRED AND NOW WE ARE LOOKING AT THE 7TH. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 75,000 MILES. IT IS SERVICED AT BREDAMAN CHEVROLET IN PARK RIDGE, IL EACH TIME. EACH TIME THEY TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE REPLACED IT TWICE FOR FREE. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT 10 MPH ON VARIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED AND THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.

ABS DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY TO STOP THE TRUCK AT LOW SPEEDS (1-10 MPH), ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS OR IN ONE INSTANCE SLIDING DOWN A STEEP DRIVE INTO A PARKING AREA FULL OF CARS AND PEOPLE. THIS HAPPENS ON EVERY OCCASION AT SLOW SPEED HEAVY BRAKING. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FIX ON ALL, NOT JUST THE SELECTED FEW. *NM
