TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2004 BMW K1200LT MOTORCYCLE. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS IN A PARKED POSITION WHEN THE CONTACT OBSERVED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEAKING. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FUEL LINE. THE ORIGINAL FUEL LINE WAS MADE OF PLASTIC AND IT WAS REPLACED WITH A STEEL LINE. IN ADDITION, THE THROTTLE CABLE DISENGAGED FROM THE ENGINE WHILE TRAVELING IN TRAFFIC. THERE WAS AN ESTIMATED COST OF $900.00 FOR THE MOTORCYCLE SERVICE REPAIR. IT HAS NOT …

FUEL LINE QUICK DISCONNECT FAILED AS VEHICLE SLOWED FOR STOPPING AT INTERSECTION. FUEL UNDER PRESSURE FROM RUNNING ENGINE WAS RELEASED ONTO THE ENGINE, THE ROAD SURFACE AND DRIVER'S RIGHT LEG. NO WARNING, SOUND OR LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, JUST STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE UNTIL I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW THE FUEL WETTING EVERYTHING. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON FAILURE AND IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE BMWLT.COM FORUM, INVOLVING HUNDREDS OF THESE AND SIMILAR MODEL BMW MOTORCYCLES.
