AN IN-TANK FUEL LINE BETWEEN THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER IS MISSING HOSE CLAMPS CAUSING FUEL PRESSURE LOSS AND ERRATIC ENGINE PERFORMANCE. STALLING AND SPUTTERING DURING MANEUVERS IN TRAFFIC CAN BE BEING VERY DANGEROUS ON A MOTORCYCLE OR ANY TWO WHEEL VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM EFFECTS 2007 THROUGH 2008 APRILIA SCARABEO 500IE AND EARLIER YEAR MODELS. THUS FAR SOME (NOT MINE) DEALERS HAVE CORRECTED THIS UNDER WARRANTY ON A BY COMPLAINT BASES. 08V522000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery

Reported: 2008-10-07 (October 7, 2008)

PIAGGIO IS RECALLING 850 MY 2006-2008 APRILIA SCARABEO 500 MOTORCYCLES EQUIPPED WITH BITRON SPA FUEL PUMP/FUEL FILTERS. THE FUEL HOSE CONNECTING THE FUEL FILTER TO THE FUEL PUMP/FUEL FILTER MOUNTING FLANGE MAY COME LOOSE. IF THIS CONNECTION IS LOOSE, OR HAS BECOME COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED, THERE WILL BE A DROP, OR LOSS OF, FUEL PRESSURE TO THE ENGINE.

Consequence: A DROP OR LOSS OF FUEL PRESSURE TO THE ENGINE COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL HOSE CLAMPS TO SECURE THE EXISTING FUEL HOSE AT BOTH ENDS TO THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PIAGGIO/APRILIA AT 1-212-380-4431.
