THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2006 RANGE ROVER SPORTS STEERING SYSTEM WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL PHYSICALLY SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLE DURING HIGH SPEEDS. THERE IS ALSO A LOUD "KNOCKING" HEARD DURING LOW SPEEDS. STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO FIX THIS IN THE UK BUT NOT IN THE USA. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT. WHENEVER THE CONTACT TURNS THE VEHICLE, HE FEELS AND HEARS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE GRINDING WORSENS IN HOT WEATHER OR AFTER DRIVING FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE AND THEY CHANGED THE STEERING SHAFT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY 7 TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO SUCCESSFUL REMEDY. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER HAVING THE RACK AND PINION CHANGED. VEHICLE STEERING COLUMN WILL NOT LOCK. KEY WILL NOT START VEHICLE DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS IS A VERY COMMON AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM WITH RANGE ROVERS AND THE DEALER KNOWS IT. REPAIR IS $7,000.00 PLUS +

The driver air bag has been replaced twice on my vehicle. The airbag light is back on. The steering column spring is bad also. I have paid to repair the airbag twice. This airbag should be recalled. I think it is unsafe for me to drive it and the airbag will not deploy if needed in a car accident. Please help me by recalling the airbag so Land Rover can replace the airbag. I bought the vehicle used but I should not have to sacrifice my safety. It seems the aftermarket does not have the airbag available any longer.
