06V407000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine:Diesel

Reported: 2006-10-26 (October 26, 2006) · Model years: 2006

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS BUILT WITH CUMMINS ISL CM850 DIESEL ENGINES. THE CONNECTING RODS WHICH TRANSFER ENERGY FROM THE PISTON TO THE CRANKSHAFT ARE DEFECTIVE AND CAN RESULT IN SEIZURE OF THE PISTON PIN. A PISTON PIN SEIZURE CAN RESULT IN A MISSION-DISABLING ENGINE FAILURE.

Consequence: THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED THE AGENCY WITH A DESCRIPTION OF THE CONSEQUENCE AS IT RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY.

Remedy: CUMMINS WILL REPLACE THE CONNECTING RODS FREE OF CHARGE (PLEASE SEE 06E037). CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT CUMMINS AT 1-800-DIESELS OR KME AT 1-800-235-3928.

08V263000 · Service Brakes, Air:Supply:Check Valve

Reported: 2008-06-12 (June 12, 2008) · Model years: 2006, 2007

KME IS RECALLING 122 MY 2006-2007 PREDATOR AND SEVERE SERVICE PUMPER, AERIAL AND TDA FIRE TRUCKS. A CHECK VALVE WAS OMITTED FROM THE SECONDARY SUPPLY PORT OF THE BENDIX SR-7 SPRING BRAKE MODULATING VALVE.

Consequence: AS A RESULT, AN AIR LEAK IN THE SECONDARY OR PRIMARY SYSTEM MAY RESULT IN THE PARK BRAKES INADVERTENTLY APPLYING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL ADD A CHECK VALVE TO THE SECONDARY SUPPLY PORT OF THE SR-7 SPRING BRAKE MODULATING VALVE AND WILL ALSO REPAIR THE SR-7 VALVE BY APPLYING A CHECK VALVE REPAIR KIT AS REQUIRED FOR THE BENDIX SAFETY RECALL (PLEASE SEE 07E037). THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 3, 2007. KME HAS COMPLETED 68 OF THE 123 TRUCKS AND WILL COMPLETE THE REPAIR WORK BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2008 FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KME AT 1-570-669-5154.

15V723000 · Power Train:Axle Assembly

Reported: 2015-11-02 (November 2, 2015) · Model years: 2016

Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain model year 2016 Predator and Severe Service vehicles manufactured May 8, 2015, to October 1, 2015, and equipped with certain drive axles manufactured by Marmon-Herrington. The affected axles are equipped with hex nuts on the flange yoke that may not have been properly tightened.

Consequence: If the hex nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle, resulting in a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: KME will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the hex nuts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 20, 2015. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3926.

23V818000 · Electrical System:Wiring

Reported: 2023-12-06 (December 6, 2023) · Model years: 2020

Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain 2020 Severe Service, Predator, and Spartan MetroStar trucks. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the vehicle multiplex system may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.

Consequence: Overloaded electrical circuits can overheat, increasing the risk of fire.

Remedy: Dealers will work with the equipment manufacturer to update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 24, 2024. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928.

23V798000 · Parking Brake

Reported: 2023-11-26 (November 26, 2023) · Model years: 2021, 2022, 2023

Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Predator, Panther, and Severe Service fire trucks. A defect in the inversion valve may delay park brake engagement, which could allow the vehicle to move unintentionally. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

Consequence: Unintentional vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the inversion valves as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 24, 2024. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928.
