HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS FIXED 4 TIMES IN 65,000. CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY IN FRONT AND DIFFICULTY STOPPING AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 35 MPH. HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE WITH AS MANY BRAKE PROBLEMS AS THIS JEEP HAS HAD. NORMALLY BRAKES SHOULD NOT REQUIRE REPAIR FOR THE FIRST 45,000 MILES. EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LOCK. IT MAKES A LOUD BUZZING SOUND WHEN UNLOCKING USING THE REMOTE OR MANUALLY. THE DOOR WILL UNLOCK BUT WON'T LOCK. ALARM WILL SOUND EVEN IF DOOR IS UNLOCKED WHEN OPENED AND REMOTE HAS BEEN USED TO LOCK ALL OTHER DOORS. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR. *JB

AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STARTED COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY INDICATING MALFUNCTION IN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM. TOOK TO DEALER WHO DETERMINED THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE "CLOCK SPRING" IN THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSING THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION. (NOTE THAT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY "CLOCK" BUT WAS TOLD THIS IS THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE DRIVERS AIRBAG AND THE STEERING COLUMN WIRING HARNESS). WHILE DRIVING, A FIRE STARTED IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT EVIDENCED BY SMOKE AND FLAMES, STOPPED CAR, OPENED HOOD AND TWO FOOT HIGH FLAMES BURST OUT OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CALLED ST CHARLES IL FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO EXTINGUISHED FLAMES, HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER DETERMINED CAUSE OF FIRE WAS POWER STEERING HOSE BURST SPRAYING FLUID ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND WAS IGNITED. DEALER REPAIRED BY REPLACING HOSE AT A COST OF $348 THAT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE JEEP EXTENDED WARRANTY. *JB

WE OWN A 1999 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LARADO AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LOCK HAS GONE BAD YOU CAN LOCK ALL THE DOORS WITH THE REMOTE BUT HAVE TO LOCK THE DRIVERS SIDE BY HAND AND IT MAKES A LOUD BUZZING SOUND WHEN LOCKING & UNLOCKING. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2002 I NOTICED A QUICK FLASH OF MY LIGHTS AT NIGHT ON/OFF/ON WHILE DRIVING. THOUGHT I WAS IMAGINING AT THE TIME. IT WOULD SYSTEM SHUT DOWN ONLY AT STOPS AND VERY INFREQUENT. I DRIVE IT DAILY AND NOW IT HAPPENS 3-6 TIMES A WEEK WITH NO WARNING. TOTAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN. ENGINE STALLS AND ALL GAUGES ARE OFF. ERRATIC, INTERMITTENT INSTRUMENTATION FAILURES OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS STARTING WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT GOING ON AND OFF, A MALFUNCTIONING ODOMETER AND CULMINATING IN THE RECENT FAILURE OF THE SPEEDOMETER. I SUSPECT THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AS NOTED IN COMPANY SERVICE BULLETIN #081599. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OBTAIN THIS INFO FROM EITHER CHRYSLER OR THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. I HAVE A 99 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO AND WE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK SKID PLATE WAS ALL RUSTY. AND PIECES WERE FALLING OFF. MY BOYFRIEND LOOKED AT IT AND COME TO FIND OUT THE SKID PLATE IS THE ONLY THING HOLDING MY GAS TANK IN. THE ONE SIDE WHERE THE BOLTS ARE WERE ALL RUSTED AND NOT EVEN CONNECTED SO MY GAS TANK WAS ABOUT TO FALL OUT OF MY CAR AND ONLY BEING HELD IN BY THE OTHER BOLT ON THE OTHER SIDE.
