Owner report 11467819 · 2022-06-06 (June 6, 2022)

I was driving down a highway at around 60 MPH with no one around me. As a car started to pass me on the left, my Elantra started sharply turning to the left and stopping. The dash started beeping with emergency braking lit up. The system activated on its own for no reason.

Owner report 11473199 · 2022-07-10 (July 10, 2022)

I was traveling on a road headed to east bound 1-80 when my AEB engaged and it caused me to swerve to the left and the AEB slammed into the braking system. it lasted about 30 seconds and then clicked off and did not do it again until a few days later when traveling on the same road the AEB engaged again at the same spot causing my vehicle to swerve to the left. it then did it a third time while traveling in town at 45 mph the AEB slammed into the braking system for about 20 seconds and then released. It was very scary and not provoked as this c…

Owner report 11453523 · 2022-02-22 (February 22, 2022)

I attempted to accelerate while on my way to work and the vehicle would not start the engine. With the pedal pressed all the way to the floor, I was barely accelerating. Had this happened when I was pulling into traffic or otherwise had to accelerate quickly to avoid an incident, it could have been extremely dangerous. The battery almost completely died before I was able to pull over, but turning off the vehicle and starting it again returned the vehicle to normal. The vehicle has not yet been inspected concerning this issue. There were no war…

Owner report 11611209 · 2024-08-27 (August 27, 2024)

We were on our way home from the beach on [XXX]. Coming through Birmingham on [XXX] in the far left (fast) lane traveling 78-80 mph with traffic flow, the car starts sounding a loud alarm with red flashing lights on the dashboard. The notification flashing said to “Check Hybrid system HEV BATTERY, Stop safely”. The car began to power down with no acceleration. I was unable to get across to the far-right lane to pull over, we had to just squeeze in between the concrete barrier and the cars flying by. Not to mention no flashers – nothing. The car…

Owner report 11499585 · 2022-12-30 (December 30, 2022)

After driving the vehicle for about 5 miles I stopped to make a left turn and when I let off the brake and pressed the gas pedal the car crept forward but wouldn't speed up and the gas engine wasn't starting or even cranking. After about 20 to 30 seconds to gas engine started and the car drove fine for about 15 miles then I went to slow down and the car speed up on it own and the adaptive cruise control was off. Then it drove fine for a few more miles then I stopped at a red light and then began to make a right turn and the car did the same as …

Owner report 11530328 · 2023-07-04 (July 4, 2023)

Horn has failed twice. The first time it was taken to the dealership and “fixed” - now it has failed again. The second issue is that the car accelerates on its own, both at a high and low rate of speed. While traveling at approximately 60 mph on multiple occasions, when the engine transitions from the electric motor to the gas engine, it will suddenly rapidly accelerate without any additional pressure on the gas pedal. While braking at a low rate of speed, the car seems to fight the brakes and will accelerate instead, propelling the car forward…

Owner report 11612636 · 2024-09-04 (September 4, 2024)

When driving the vehicle for more than 10 minutes, the dash will display " Check hybrid system. Stop safely" the vehicle will completely stall and will not allow you accelerate forcing you to pull over, turn the vehicle off and reset the 12v battery. Once this is done the car will turn on normally as if nothing happened. This issue happens randomly and without a warning. It was occurred on the highway many times while traveling 60+ mph and I had to stop abruptly and was forced to slow down drastically and pull over on a median and reset the ca…

Owner report 11669196 · 2025-06-25 (June 25, 2025)

On [XXX] and [XXX], while driving at approximately 50 MPH, my vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of power, presenting an immediate safety hazard. The incident unfolded as follows: Without warning, the car emitted an alarming sound from the cabin. Simultaneously, a message appeared on the dashboard stating "Check Hybrid System" and instructing me to "Pull Over Safely." This was the first and only warning; there were no prior indications or symptoms of any problem before this sudden failure. Immediately upon this warning, the vehi…

Owner report 11569635 · 2024-02-03 (February 3, 2024)

2 times on freeway and 1 time on city streets, no vehicles within 100 yards and vehicle came to complete random stop. On freeway, tires skidded it was so abrupt and had neck pains for a few days thereafter. One time also on city street, corrective steering pulled shaply to right almost causing accident. Called hyundai and the representative had no advice or care to even intake the issue for records.not a safe vehicle especially since the engine has already failed and the ac has been replaced. It's now a frankenstein death trap being a danger t…

Owner report 11640896 · 2025-02-05 (February 5, 2025)

Sometimes when the cruise control is turned on the car starts the cruise setting at 110mph and then starts accelerating the vehicle to that speed. It does not allow the mph setting to be turned down using the controls on the steering wheel, the only way to take it out of the stuck 110 mph setting is by turning cruise control off or braking. This situation happens rarely but does occur with only the cruise control being turned on, without any further prompt. I have a video of the occurance but the website does not allow me to upload a video.
