Owner report 10892997 · 2016-08-03 (August 3, 2016)
I HAVE A 2004 WORK AND PLAY. I HAVE HAD REPEATED ISSUES WITH TIRES RUBBING, WHEEL BEARINGS, AND BRAKES. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE BREAKDOWNS AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE WORK ON THE CAMPER WITH VARYING RESULTS AND FIXES. MY LATEST ADVENTURE LEFT ME IN CHATTANOOGA NEAR A CAMPING WORLD. THE MECHANIC THERE CHECKED IT OUT AND SHOWED ME THE PROBLEM. THE AXLES ON THIS TRAILER ARE TOO NARROW. THIS IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE RUBBING, THE BEARINGS BEING STRESSED TO PREMATURE WEARING, AND ISSUES WITH BRAKES. NOT TO MENTION DENTING THE INSIDE BOTTOM OF THE …

TIRE FAILURE. TIRE SEPARATED FROM RIM, (INNER & OUTER). THIS WHEEL IS ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR AXLE. TIRE RUBBER REMNANTS DESTROYED WIRES TO ELECTRIC BRAKES. THESE WIRES ARE LOCATED ON THE AXLE JUST INSIDE THE WHEEL. THE TIRES ON THE CAMPER ARE VAIL SPORT ST205/75D14. THIS IS THE SECOND SUCH FAILURE. THE FIRST OCCURRED ON 2MAY14. THE FAILURE MECHANISM WAS IDENTICAL EXCEPT IT WAS ON THE DRIVER?S SIDE FRONT AXLE. WITH 2 IDENTICAL FAILURES BOTH WITH VAIL SPORT ST205/75D14 TIRES ON A BRAND NEW CAMPER, IT SEEMS THAT THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED. …

CASE #[XXX], SUBMITTED 8-17-2010. 2010 FOREST RIVER INC, CHEROKEE GREY WOLF MODEL 19RR. U BOLTS CAME LOOSE ON BOTH AXLES ALLOWING AXLES TO MOVE OFF OF THEIR LOCATING PIN ON LEAF SPRINGS. THE WHEELS SHIFTED RIGHT ALLOWING BOTH RIGHT TIRES TO RUB ON INNER WHEEL WELL. THE CONDITION WAS DISCOVERED WHEN THE CAMPER WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR UNUSUAL TIRE WEAR AND CRACKING IN THE TIRE THREADS. THE CAMPER PURCHASED NEW ON MAY 15, 2010 AND THE CONDITION NOTED ON AUG.4, 2010 WHILE EXAMINING THE TIRES. THE DEALER HAS BEEN VERY RESPONSIVE AND FILED WA…
