HYDRAULIC BRAKES, 6.8 L V-10 ENGINE. SERVICE BRAKE PEDAL SPONGY, TRAVELS EXCESSIVELY ON INITIAL APPLICATION BUT CAN BE 'PUMPED UP' TO RESPOND BETTER. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAYS SYSTEM WORKS AS DESIGNED AND SAID 'THEY COMPARED IT WITH OTHER TRUCKS ON LOT.' PICKED VEHICLE UP FROM DEALER, WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK WITH TECHNICIAN WHO PERFORMED DIAGNOSIS. 1. The high pressure fuel system failed, specifically the secondary fuel filter. The fire originated from the injector manifold, burning straight up to the bottom of the hood. Fuel was everywhere and the driver could obviously smell it. 2. This could have been a life threatening fire. 3. The problem has been confirmed by an independent fire safety company that was hired by our insurance. 4. The vehicle was inspected by insurance representatives and the fire department. 5. The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-750. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle shut off. The contact pulled over on the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 76,000.
