TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD F-750 SD. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT 5 MPH, THE AIR MUFFLER BECAME UNWELDED AND THE AIR BRAKES FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE MUST PURCHASE NEW PARTS AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE NEW PARTS, WHICH ARE NOW A DIFFERENT DESIGN, AND MADE A MECHANIC PERFORM THE REPAIRS. AFTER A REPAIR TO THE TRANSMISSION BY A LICENSED FACILITY, THE PROP SHAFT DEPARTED THE REAR AXLE DUE TO A FLANGE BREAKING. THE PROP SHAFT FAILED AROUND AND TORE OFF THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE TRANSMISSION AND THE REAR BRAKE LINES; THE CABLE TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ALSO COMPROMISED. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE STOPPED. ALL POWER STEERING AND ALL BRAKING WAS LOST; THE TRUCK ROLLED TO A STOP, AND THEN ROLLED BACKWARDS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE INTO A SNOW BANK.
