Owner report 10038765 · 2003-09-12 (September 12, 2003)
DEFECTIVE A604 ULTRADRIVE TRANSMISSION, IN 1991 CHRYSLER LEBARON CONVERTIBLE. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO REPAIR OR HONOR REPAIRS. THEY NEVER MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT A RE CALL. THEY CLAIMED THE VEHICLE HAD EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE ALLOWED AND WARRANTY. THIS WAS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT ON CHRYSLER'S BEHALF. NEARLY ALL TRANSMISSION FAIL AFTER 20,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE BECOMES STUCK INTO SECOND GEAR..AND SHIFTS VIOLENTLY. THE CAUSES MORE STRESS ON THE ENGINE. THE REPAIRS WOULD BE QUITE EXPENSIVE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT CHRYSLER LATER RE NAMED THIS TRANSM…

THE VEHICLE UNPREDICTABLY SHIFTS INTO SECOND GEAR WHILE TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. FIRST OCCURANCE WAS AT 62,000 MILES. THE REPAIRS SO FAR ONLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME, 10,000 TO 15,000 PER REPAIR. DURING THE WINTER MONTHS I DRIVE IN THE SNOW WEEKLY. THIS CONDITION MAKES THE CAR EXTREMLY UNSAFE ON WET OR ICY ROADS. ITS NOW DRIVEN ONLY ON DRY ROADS. CAN THIS TRANSMISSION BE REPAIRED?

I LOOKED UP 5 RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE, 1991 CHRYSLER, LEBARON CONVERTIBLE. MY COMPLAINT IS I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THESE RECALLS AND TODAY I EXPERIENCE THE BAD BRAKES WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO DIE IN A COLLISION FROM MY BRAKES GOING OUT AND PROBLEMS TO MY REAR WHEEL. *TR

WHILE APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHILE PARKING ON A SLIGHT DECLINE. THE NEXT MORNING, WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED, SMOKE FILLED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. UPON INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT THE WIRE FROM THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SWITCH SHORTED AND MELTED OFF THE INSULATION, CAUSING ADDITIONAL WIRING PROBLEMS. THE HEADLIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE HIGH-BEAM SWITCH AND THE ON/OFF SWITCH BOTH CAUSE THE LIGHTS TO GO TO HIGH-BEAMS. SO FAR, I HAVE DISCOVERED THE DAMAGED WIRES, UP TO THE FIREWALL, IN THE PROCESS OF SEPARATING AND REPLACING THE DAMAGED W…

WHEN TRYING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, AT ANY SPEED IT WOULD MAKE A CLICKING NOICE AND SOMETIMES WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN ( STEERING WHEEL WOULD JUST STOP SPINNING IN THE MIDDLE OF TURNING THE WHEEL AND WOULD NEED TO BE FORCED INTO THE TURN ) LATER FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL NEVER WORKED BECAUSE THE REPAIR CENTER SAID THE CLOCKSPRING HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THIS IS A 300.00 EXPENSE. THERE IS NO DISCOUNT OR ANYTHING EVEN THO THIS PART ALSO CONTROLS THE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY WHICH EVIDENTLY IS NOT A SAFETY FEATURE ... IT IS A …
