WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGE, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ACCELERATOR ENGAGED FOR NO REASON, CONSUMEMER WAS UNABLE TI CONTROL VEHICLE AND ITS SPEEDS, CONSUMER TURNED THE KEY OFF WHICH ELIMINATED THE POWER BRAKES AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS FINALLY RELEASED, CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM OVER SIX TIMES AND THE DEALER KEEPS INFORMING HIM THAT THE PROBLEM CAN NOT BE DUPLICATED.*JB

THE VEHICLE WILL AT ANY BUT IT HAS HAPPEND 7 TIMES PRIOR TO 06/24/01 IT OCCURED FOUR TIMES THAT DAY. WHEN GETTING UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED , SOMETHING TAKES OVER THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ONLY WAY IT CAN BE STOPPED IS TURN THE KEY AND PUT TRUCK IN NEUTRAL. WITH THE KEY OFF YOU LOSE BRAKING. I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR REPAIR FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. I HAVE CALLED CHEV CUSTOMER SERVICE NO ONE CAN HELP ME. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE NEW HARRELL CHEV WENT OUT OF BUSINESS I DID HAVE IT ON RECORD I THINK. I CARRIED IT TO THE BUICK/CHEV DEALE…

THE FIRESTONE TIRES WERE INSTALLED ON OUR PICKUP AT AROUND 15,000 MILES ON THE PICKUP ITSELF, AT 28,246 MILES WE WENT TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AND REBALANCED AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE THAT CAME OF WOULD NOT BALANCE. THEY TOOK IT APART AND DISCOVERED THE INNER LINER OF THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY COMING APART AND TURNING INTO POWDER. FIRESTONE SAID IT HAD BEEN RAN AT LOW PRESURE AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE INNER LINER COMING APART, AND THAT IT WAS NOT "ADJUSTABLE" . SERPENTINE BELT KEPT RUNNING OFF PULLEYS AS A RESULT OF RUBBER BUILDUP IN THE PULLEY GROOVES. LOSS OF BELT RESULTS IN DEGRADATION OF BRAKING ABILITY AND STEERING CONTROL. SAFETY LATCH ON HOOD FAILED TO PREVENT HOOD OPENING ON HIGHWAY. WILL FAX FULL REPORT TO CLARIFY DANGERS.*AK
