Owner report 11209399 · 2019-05-22 (May 22, 2019)

THE MOTORCYCLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN FAULT OCCURED. IT FAILED TO START FOLLOWING REFUELING. A 'VDS' CODE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN. DEALER COULD NOT CONNECT TO THE ECU TO DETERMINE THE FAULT CODES. THE DEALER TESTED ALL THE SENSORS AND WIRING AND NO ISSUE. FINALLY THEY REPLACED THE ECU AND THEY WERE ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE ECU. THEY SAID THE FAULT IS IN THE ECU AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MOTORCYCLE HAS 4600 MILES ON IT. IF THE ECU FAULTED WHILE RIDING, A VDS (VEHICLE DROP SENSOR) CODE CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A CRASH AT HIGH SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY …

VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. WORKED FINE WHEN NEW. THIS PROBLEM STARTED 3-4 MONTHS AFTER NEW. LAST TIME AT THE DEALER (SF BMW MOTORCYCLES) WAS 3/25/17 - THE DEALER REPLICATED THE ISSUE, BUT DOES NOT HAVE A FIX. THE DEALER REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM BMW N.A. BMW N.A. STATES "THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAVE REPLICATED IT ON OTHER BIKES", "NOT A DEFECT, BUT A FEATURE OF THE BIKE". BMW N.A. WILL NOT PAY TO HAVE THE BIKE SERVICED OR FIXED. SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! Owner report 11317290 · 2020-03-10 (March 10, 2020)

BOTH OF MY FRONT CALIPERS LEAK BRAKE FLUID, ENOUGH TO LEAVE PUDDLES ON THE GROUND. THIS WAS NOTICED AFTER THE BIKE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. AS OF THIS NOTE THE BIKE IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH AN UNKNOWN ETA ON PARTS. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH BMW NORTH AMERICA AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVE INDICATED THAT BMW IS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, I CAN FIND SEVERAL PEOPLE ONLINE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. HAVING THE FRONT BRAKES FAIL ON THIS MOTORCYCLE WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC.
