Owner report 10290823 · 2009-11-03 (November 3, 2009)
THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN RETURNING FROM A SHORT RIDE IN MY HOME AREA WHEN I MADE A TURN ONTO A SIDE STREET AND THE AND MY 2009 FJR1300A STOPPED RUNNING. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (CURBS WITHOUT A BERM OR PARKING AREA) AND ATTEMPTED A RESTART. THE TACHOMETER AND SPEED GAUGES INDEXED AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. THE ABS AND LOW OIL LIGHTS TURNED ON THEN OFF AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. HOWEVER, THE HAZARD INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE ON (CONSTANTLY) AS WELL AS THE HIGH BEAM LIGHT INDICATOR. ALL OTHER ELECTRIC DEVICES WOULD NOT FUNCTION INCLUDING TAIL LIGHTS, S…

2009 YAMAHA FJR1300A IS EXPERIENCING A POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL GROUNDING PROBLEM. THE MOTORCYCLE IS EXPERIENCING RANDOM STALLING, HARD RE-STARTING AND ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS, THE GAUGES HAVE MOMENTARILY GONE CRAZY. ON ONE OCCASION (ON THE FREEWAY) THE MOTORCYCLE BRIEFLY CUT OUT. THESE SYMPTOMS MIRROR THE BEGINNINGS OF THE CURRENT S4 SPIDER GROUNDING PROBLEM OTHER FJR RIDERS ARE DEALING EXPERIENCING. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT INVESTIGATE, AS THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. I'VE WRITTEN YAMAHA ABOUT MY CONCERNS, AND HAVE YET TO GET A RESPONSE. *TR

Owner report 10328649 · 2010-05-03 (May 3, 2010)
WHILE TRAVELING ALONG THE CROSS ISLAND PARKWAY MY FJR1300A STALLED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING. BOTH TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS WERE ON SOLID, THE HI-BEAMS LIGHT WAS ON, ALTHOUGH THEY WERE NOT SET TO THE "HI" POSITION, THE HORN DID NOT WORK, THE GLOVE BOX WOULD NOT OPEN, AND THE STARTER WOULD NOT ENGAGE. FORTUNATELY I WAS TRAVELING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC JUST BEFORE GETTING ONTO THE THROGS NECK BRIDGE. HAD THIS HAPPENED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, THINGS WOULD HAVE TURNED OUT VERY DIFFERENTLY. BASED ON THE RESEARCH DONE, THIS HAS AL…

Owner report 10495055 · 2013-01-29 (January 29, 2013)
WHILE REASSEMBLING MY MOTORCYCLE (DUE TO AN UNRELATED REPAIR), THE FUEL TANK BEGAN TO LEAK DUE TO A HOLE WORN INTO THE TANK FROM A HEX BOLT THAT HOLDS ON A PLASTIC REAR SKIRT. IT APPEARS THAT SEVERAL YEARS OF ABRASION, DUE TO THE HEX BOLT MOUNTING HOLE BEING TOO CLOSE TO THE TANK (POSSIBLY DUE TO A MANUFACTURING OR ASSEMBLY DEFECT) CAUSED THE TANK METAL TO BECOME COMPROMISED. WHEN I REASSEMBLED THE MOTORCYCLE THE HEX BOLT WAS ABLE TO PENETRATE THE WALL OF THE WEAKENED METAL, THUS CAUSING THE HOLE. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THIS LEAK COULD HAVE OC…
