DTNA IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2002 THROUGH 2011 WESTERN STAR 4900 SA TRUCKS MANUFACTURER FROM DECEMBER 21, 2001 THROUGH JUNE 4, 2010. THE SPACER USED TO CONNECT THE AFT STEER AXLE IDLER ARM TO THE FRAME RAIL MAY DEVELOP CRACKS AND EVENTUALLY BREAK UNDER SEVERE STEERING CONDITIONS ALLOWING THE IDLER ARM TO SEPARATE FROM THE FRAME RAIL RESULTING IN DIMINISHED STEERING CONTROL.

Consequence: DIMINISHED STEERING CONTROL INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DTNA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 26, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DTNA TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-547-0712.
