MOTORCYCLE HAS DEVELOPED A SLIP IN 1ST AND IN 2ND GEAR. I WENT TO YAMAHA AT ABOUT 7500 MILES AND COMPLAINED. THEY TRIED TO SAY I WAS TOO ROUGH ON THE BIKE. BOTH GEARS ABOUT 8500 RPM JUMPS TO 8750 RPM AND CATCHES AGAIN AND THEN AT ABOUT 9500 IT SLIPS TO 9750-10000 RPM. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH TENSION ON THE CLUTCH SO I ADJUSTED THE CABLE. FINALLY, I CONVINCED ANOTHER BUSINESS WITH A REAR-WHEEL DYNO TO LOAD IT UP AND CLEARLY SAW THE INSTANT JUMPS I HAD BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT. YAMAHA STILL DENIES ANY PROBLEMS. …

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SIDESTAND SWITCH CAN LOOSEN AND FALL OUT DUE TO ENGINE HEAT AND VIBRATION. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SIDESTAND SWITCH WOULD NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY, SO IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO RIDE THE MOTORCYCLE WITH THE SIDESTAND IN THE DOWN POSITION.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION WOULD INCREASE THE RISK THAT THE SIDESTAND COULD HIT THE GROUND DURING A TURN, WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SIDESTAND SWITCH.
