MY YAMAHA XT 250, POPS/BACKFIRES ALL THE TIME DURING DECELERATION. SOMETIMES A VERY LOUD BANG. I WAS TOLD BY YAMAHA THAT THEY DESIGNED THE EMISSION SYSTEM THIS WAY TO PASS EMISSIONS. WHEN THEY DISCONNECTED THE EMISSIONS THE LOUD POPPING AND BACK FIRING WENT AWAY. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO NOT HAVE THE CONSTANT LOUD POPPING AND BACKFIRING IS BY MAKING THE MOTORCYCLE NOT PASS EMISSIONS. I DO NOT THINK IT IS VERY SAFE TO HAVE A MOTORCYCLE KEEP ON BACKFIRING AND STUTTERING WHEN DRIVING IT, LOSS OF POWER. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE CAN LOOK INT…

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 (NA) YAMAHA XT250. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE LEFT AND RIGHT TURN SIGNALS WERE ACTIVATED. AS A RESULT, BOTH TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS WOULD BLINK AND CONFUSE OTHER MOTORISTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MIDDLE TOWN CYCLES (3711 COMMERCE DR, MIDDLETOWN, OH 45005, [phone removed]) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAD LOW POWER, WHICH WAS WHY THE HAZARD LIGHTS BLINKED INSTEAD OF ONLY THE TURN SIGNALS. Reported: 2014-11-25 (November 25, 2014)
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Yamaha XT250 motorcycles manufactured August 1, 2012, to October 1, 2014. The affected motorcycles contain an air induction pipe and hose which may fail after prolonged periods of high RPM operation. The air induction hose may melt causing hot exhaust gases to leak from the hose.
Consequence: A melted air induction hose may cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Remedy: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air induction pipe and hose, free of charge. The recall began January 9, 2015. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-714-761-7300. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990091.
