Owner report 10419466 · 2011-08-15 (August 15, 2011)
I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A FUEL PUMP FAILURE ON MY 2008 YAMAHA WR250X WITH 6700 MILES. I RODE IT TO WORK AND ON MY WAY HOME IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES AND THE FUEL PUMP STARTED CUTTING OUT. I TRIED STOPPING AND FILLING UP, LETTING THE BIKE COOL, WAITING UNTIL COOLER OUTSIDE. FUEL PUMP CONTINUES TO CUT OUT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON ENTHUSIAST WEBSITES AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY COMPLAINT TO HELP AVOID SOMEONE BEING STRANDED SOMEWHERE. *TR

Owner report 10464564 · 2012-07-07 (July 7, 2012)
I AM SUBMITTING AN INCIDENT REPORT FOR A HEAT-RELATED FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP THAT CAUSES AN ENGINE STALLING CONDITION AND A FAILURE TO RE-START. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION SINCE MY MOTORCYCLE QUIT WHILE RIDING ON THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT RE-START UNTIL THE MOTORCYCLE COOLED. IN TRAFFIC THIS WOULD BE A CERTAIN SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL MOTORCYCLE AND ITS 'SISTER' MODEL, THE WR250X (GOOGLE SEARCH WILL LEAD TO MANY REPORTS AND INFORMATION.) Recall history
1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
15V410000 · Electrical System:Alternator/Generator/Regulator
Reported: 2015-06-29 (June 29, 2015)
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 WR250X motorcycles manufactured June 1, 2008, to June 1, 2011 and 2008-2015 WR250R motorcycles manufactured June 1, 2008, to June 1, 2015. In the affected motorcycles, the insulation on the stator coil, a component of the alternator, may become damaged and short circuit to due insufficient heat resistance.
Consequence: If the stator coil is not insulated, the motorcyle will not charge and the battery will go dead, causing the engine to stall which increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stator coil with one that has sufficient heat resistance, free of charge. The recall began on July 30, 2015. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926.
