YAMAHA ROADSTAR MOTORCYCLE 2000, BUILT BEFORE MARCH OF 2000. SPRING INSIDE TRANSMISSION BROKE, CAUSING LOSS OF SHIFT CAPABILITY. BREAK OCCURRED WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT, SO SPRING PARTS DID NOT INTERFERE WITH FORWARD MOVEMENT THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN CAUSED IF PIECE OF SPRING HAD LODGED BETWEEN GEAR TEETH. SPRING REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER OCCASIONAL HARD SHIFTS OCCUR.*AK

Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

06V397000 · Power Train:Manual Transmission

Reported: 2006-10-17 (October 17, 2006)

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, CERTAIN TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS MAY NOT MEET YAMAHA QUALITY-CONTROL STANDARDS, WHICH COULD ALLOW ABNORMAL WEAR THAT EVENTUALLY RESULTS IN A BROKEN RETAINING CIRCLIP.

Consequence: IF THE CIRCLIP BREAKS, THE TRANSMISSION COULD LOCK UP, WHICH WOULD ALSO CAUSE THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCK UP. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CRASH WITH INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE CERTAIN TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS WITH NEW ONES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 30, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-88-YAMAHA OR VISIT THEIR WEBSITE AT WWW.YAMAHA-MOTOR.COM.
